HI
So I’m apply to BU ED, and from what I’ve seen its an awesome school. But what are your opinions on student life (Party scene, stuff to do etc) compared to the other Boston schools? I heard BU was more exciting than Northeastern but I would like opinions and stuff. THANKS GUYS
Hi, I’m a freshman at BU right now, and I’m really happy with the campus life here so far. There are lots of events on campus, not to mention club meetings and that kind of thing.
If parties are your scene, you need to seek them out here, but theyre definitely there if you look for them. Just make sure to be with a group if you go to Allston at night, it can be kind of sketchy. A good amount of people go to the nearby MIT frat parties too, and if you have upperclassmen connections, there are apartment parties.
Personally, I only like to go to parties every once in a while. Usually on weekends I do things in the city (boston calling was super fun, I go to faniuel hall, chinatown, newberry street, the public market, brookline, house of blues etc). There’s so much fun things to do in Boston, also I check out events on campus (cultural events are mainly what I’m interested in).
So overall, I’m extremely happy here so far, people are mostly really friendly and I’ve already made some amazing friends. If you like city life then this is definitely a great place to be, socially. But yeah, parties definitely don’t fall into your lap here the way they do at some schools.
BU is definitely one of the more lively campuses in Boston. That said, partying is very very poor in my opinion. I am getting sick of this drinking age and having to worry about hiding alcohol from my RA. Its literally gotten to the point where I’m already booking nights at nightclubs for when I go back home to Europe. The frat scene is meh. If you’re a dude then you should definitely look into going greek because if you are not in a frat then you typically need a 4:1 ratio not even exaggerating. The frat I went to last week required a 4:1 ratio and thankfully I had a 5:1, but usually I don’t! I’ve found my self going to a lot of non BU events such as Glow Boston. There is definitely a lot to do here don’t get me wrong, but the partying is lacking and I think most people can agree with me on that! My twin goes to NEU and he is constantly calling me up on weekends asking me to get him into BU or MIT frat parties so I’d say BU has the edge on social life. If you want to party you can, but you really have to go out there and look for it! I wish you the best with everything and hopefully you’ll get in!!
