I am currently a sophomore student in ILR. I'm willing to answer any Cornell-related questions that you may have or anything you may have been wondering about. If you don't want to ask in front of everyone, you can PM me and I'll answer. Ask away...

how are the workout facilities at cornell? are they always really crowded?

Is the deferral acceptance rate in Cornell actually high?

how can i go about getting a parking space from a frat instead of buying an expensive permit on north campus? ill be living in the transfer center next semester and i want to have my car somewhat close to where i am. north campus would be extremely far away.

How cold will it be when I come back from break?

A) above freezing
B) below freezing
C) ****ing cold

put up some dorm pics
i wanna know what facilities are aviliable at the dorm....
like is laptop necessary?

How is the ILR program? are the classes hard? do you think its better than CAS? lol

hunter#9- The workout facilities are pretty good. We have Teagle Hall on Central campus which is popular but is a little old and is crowded a lot. We also have two workout facilities on North (Helen Newman and Appel). Both have ellipticals, treadmills, and weights and Helen Newman has a pool. Also, the brand new Noyes community center will be completed when we get back from winter break in January. It's supposed to be amazing and state-of-the-art with TVs and a rock climbing wall and what not.

waternam I'm really not sure about this at all.

ajp87- You would have to contact a frat close to the Transfer Center. A lot of people from the Transfer Center park at Fiji. Your other options would be DU, DKE, Psi U, Sigma Chi. Go to greeks.cornell.edu to get the contact information about each frat or look up the president on Facebook I guess.

MUnited- I'm guessing it will be Below Freezing (B). This December was unusually warm, and I mean reallly really warm. It was in the high 50's and low 60's at some point. So I don't think it'll be too bad when we get back from winter break.

Hansen- dorm pics. check out classof2010.cornell.edu for more pics. I'm not sure if there is a classof2011.cornell.edu yet, I doubt it.

mojojojo69- ILR is a great program if you're interested in pre-law or human resource management. its a combination of a wide range of studies such as human resources, labor law, collective bargaining, economics, labor history, organizational behavior. I'm not going to say it's better than CAS or worse because the two can't be compared.

are the classes hard? do teachers curve? any extra credit?

in that picture, is that person using a desktop or laptop?

w.t.f does it look like

why does it matter, though he does have a periodic table of beer, that might be a focus of interest

mojojojo69- It all depends on your major. Many science and engineering courses are curved to a B- . Very few ILR and CAS classes are curved. Many ILR teachers offer extra credit. I'm not sure about any other majors. Some classes are super hard and some are not. You probably wont get A's in every class so don't expect to. Tell me your major and I can tell you more.

Hansen- I don't know if he is using a laptop or desktop. I would recommend getting a laptop so you can bring it to class to take notes or to the library or out of your room if your roommate is being noisy. It is also nice to have a laptop in class so you can download the slides and follow along with the teacher during lecture.

Any more questions?

My sister-in-law's brother recently graduated, and he said that the school was even too freezing for a person in Woodstock to handle... will the cold drive me nuts, someone from the South?

When I visited I noticed a lot of cigs on the ground, is that a problem bc of the stress or is that normal for a college?

The northeast colleges (and midwestern colleges) do have cold weather in winter. Not just Cornell, but also Harvard, Yale, Brown, MIT, etc. Actually, last winter, Ithaca had warmer days when Boston was snowed under by blizzards. So it depends. If you don't want cold, think Stanford, Emory, Duke, etc.

to follow up what some said earlier about a class of '11 website, there is: http://classof2011.cornell.edu/

I'm from florida, and I handled the cold just fine my first semester. Jstu bundle up, wear layers and you'll be fine. Temperature should not deter you from getting a good education.

is it easy to use a bike to get around campus? are there places to lock up, etc? would you recommend using a bike?

jillpod- everyone gets used to the cold in Ithaca. It is cold no doubt but it isn't as deadly as everyone makes it seem. Just bring a warm winter jacket, a hat, and gloves and some sweaters and hoodies and you'll be fine.

steve22- I really don't think a lot of people at Cornell smoke, no more than any other college anyway. It might have been just in the area you were standing but most people at Cornell don't smoke.

r1400sch- Yeah several people use bikes. There are bike racks all over the place and in front of dorms and class buildings so that shouldn't be a problem. I don't know if I would recommend a bike though because Cornell has so many hills. It is SO easy to walk everywhere and see the scenery and when you don't feel like walking we have a free bus service. you can check it out at www.tcatbus.com
