this last year upperclassmen got to keep their rooms, leaving us freshman to be forced into ujamaa...

this was brought up in another thread... ->
do transfers and non-transfer students get along well?
Also, if you know anyone who transferred from a pretty decent college (but ranked lower than Cornell), how are they doing at Cornell now? (are they getting good grades?)

what is BIO G 001 SEC 03 1.00 S/U T 04:20-05:35P ??? i got that and 101 totaling 3 credits. where is lab? and it seems like they give you the time, can't you choose your own time

when I am applying would it be beneficial for me to declare my major (Computer Science) or put undecided?

Adding to the car discussion...if you have a relatively cheap off-campus parking spot and only park on-campus sporadically, you can (and should, imo) save yourself the parking fee. Honestly, it's not worth it to park on North unless you live up there, and on-campus parking is pretty limited anyway. What I do is park in a metered lot...it can get expensive but if you only do it one or two days a week for a few hours it's not nearly as expensive as a campus parking permit. WALK, people!

if you take An intro to writing in the university or those courses which is S/U. would that replace FWS so you dont have to take the normal FWS?

into to writing satisfied my FWS for ILR school...dont know about others

Im trying to decide between the Towhnouse community and Balch Hall at Cornell. Its between those two options because I’d rather choose where I live instead of it being randomly chosen for me and also having space is really important to me.I heard the balch rooms are huge and the Townhouses obviously have lots of space.I also really like the townhouse because I heard the bus conveniently stopped right in front of it.HOw is the social life at the townhouses though and how big are your closets? Was walking to class from balch in the winter unbearable or would I be better off at townhouse because of the bus stop? Was it hard to share a townhouse with 3 different people?Give me your opinion on whether the townhouse or Balch hall is better?

what’s fraternity rush like? Is is like a lot of other schools that have second semester rush (it’s all said and done during the fall)? Are there rounds in the spring and actual rushing going on in January, or have the fraternities already formed their pledge classes?

how good is the wireless internet?

The people who wrote here previously probably have three-year-old kids by now.

I think the entire Cornell campus in Ithaca is set up for wifi connection

What is a typical number of students on Art History major?

Does anyone know when the Regular Decision notification comes out?

I think around the beginning of April.
just call admissions and they should know

@universityin2015 most buildings on campus have WiFi now. The connection is very fast.

I don’t know about frats, or RD results, or art history…but I can answer a little bit about the Balch Hall vs. townhouses thing. look at a map of north and central campus, then look at the scale. Balch is the freshman housing that is closest to central campus. it is probably like 1/8th of a mile from the front door of Balch to the nearest academic building. it is not at all a long walk. townhouses are further from central campus, but still very walkable. I would not plan to take the bus very often because you have much more control over your schedule if you just walk. Balch has bus stops on both sides of it, so it is equally accessible by bus as the townhouses. I think either place is probably nice to live. I lived in Balch two years ago and I thought it was great.

Maybe things have changed since DS1 was a freshman a few years ago, but at that time you did not get to choose your dorm unless you were going for one of the program houses (JAM, multicultural, Risley, etc.) So I don’t think you’re going to have the townhouse/Balch choice if you’re a freshman. The person I knew who was in the townhouse was someone who committed to Cornell on May1, so it seemed as though that was not the most desirable place to live, at least as the university saw it. Lots of ED people/athletes in the newer dorms.

I think you might be able to choose more things than you used to. I am not sure. I know that when I was a freshman (08-09) we could choose to live in Balch. also, everyone receives housing into in June (ED and RD), so I doubt that the day when you commit to the school has anything to do with where you end up living.

what are frats like at cornell? what about parties? how often are they and are they like the stuff in movies I.E. american pie, beta house
