Current Cornellian Here- Ask Me Any Question!!

Could someone tell me a bit about the college of human ecology? What are the majors like (hardest and easiest)? How are the professors? What are the students' average grades? How is the academica and social atmosphere?

How do a typical student usually spend his day in Cornell? umm... I'm pretty sure I have lots more questions tacked up, but I just can't remember any at the back of my head right now. Any minute now... haha.

Thanks for your time.

by the way, does cornell deflates gpa? Are the professors only supposed to give out a certain amount of A's, then B's and C's for the other students.

woosa- I'm not in HumEc so I'm not really sure how to answer that question. HumEc has so many different majors so it's probably hard to choose the easiest and the hardest. The median grade reports found here may help you though. <a href="http://registrar.sas.cornell.edu/Student/mediangradesA.html%5B/url%5D">http://registrar.sas.cornell.edu/Student/mediangradesA.html</a></p>

I think some classes are the way you mentioned but most are not.

And if you have any questions that you can't remember now you can always PM me.

do sophomores stay in dorms or stay off-campus?

Are classes student oriented? Are there any that are still professor centered?

How would you describe your peers at ILR? How are the courses, profs and is the workload as demanding as many believe?

how were your stats when you applied? how heavily emphasized is the math sat II requirement?

rockers11- Well there are three options for sophomores. 1/3 of sophomores will join fraternities or sororities and live in those houses during their sophomore years. Other sophomores will get off campus housing such as apartments or houses in Collegetown. And the rest of sophomores live on West Campus. On-campus housing is only guaranteed until the end of sophomore year.

spark15- It all depends on the class. Huge lectures will be all about the professor talking and follwing along with slides. Smaller class (10-20 people) will probably be most student-discussion based.

ccfuel- ILR has a lot of great students. There's so many students interested in a bunch of different things in ILR, not only pre-law. There courses aren't really too bad freshman year except maybe around prelim time of course. The workload for ILR is HEAVY on reading. So expect to do a lot of reading. ILR = I Love Reading

Well ILR isn't really a math-based major at all. So I really don't think SATII Math is really that important.

How are co-ed halls seperated? Is there an option for single sexed floors?

hey i got into ILR... but i also love Math..
can i take Calculus for electives... or can i als choose to do a minor with Math??

NishtDawg- I believe the a few buildings have single-sexed floors but I'm not sure which ones and I don't think any of the freshman halls do. If you're a girl and are worried about co-ed living for whatever reason then I would suggest living in Balch Hall. It's an all girls dormitory and the rooms are nice and there are sinks between the rooms.

rach719- You can take calculus or whatever math classes you like while you're in ILR. But you can not minor in anything within ILR or in any other school outside of ILR.

How is the waterskiing scene at Cornell? Barefooting in particular.

i know that everyone says the winters in ithaca or horrible, but are they really that bad? bearible?

ps: thanks for answering my previous question :)

ithaca winters are not that bad. Especially withint eh last 5-10 years there haven't been any major blizzards. of course it gets cold, but the main problem is the constant overcast skies with light rain and high winds, which an umbrella doesn't do **** for. They're bearable as long as you bundle up, it definitely isn't that cold. And this is coming from a kid who has lived in the south for the past 15 years.

Minors = concentrations

Here are the official ones for ILR <a href="http://www.ilr.cornell.edu/studentservices/curriculum/concentrations.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.ilr.cornell.edu/studentservices/curriculum/concentrations.html</a></p>

Hey I am just wondering, is there any software that's especially important to Engineering and Science majors? Such as MatLab to the engineering, science, and math majors. I would like to learn them beforehand..

I applied to CAS because of its rich offerings of subjects. I am also interested in ILR. How much tougher is it to get into CAS vs ILR.
Is it allowable/how difficult is it to switch major within a school or switch between schools at Cornell?

do all students in CAS have to take a math class as a requirement?
thank youuu!!

"How much tougher is it to get into CAS vs ILR"

much of this depends on your EC's and demonstrated interest in ILR related stuff. If you lack these, you won't get into ILR regardless of your GPA, scores, etc. and CAS would be a safer bet.

how do you pronounce "balch?"
