Current CS Majors: Comment on CS @ NU

Hey, any current compuer science majors around? Could you please share what you like about NU's computer science department, faculty, courses, etc. ?

What kind of research can undergraduates take part in? Does the university have an ACM collegiate challenge programming team?

Also, does anyone know anything about the research Robert Adolf and Brian Cornell have been doing?

They're honorably mentioned here: http://www.cra.org/Activities/awards/undergrad/2005.html

BUMP
Come on! Even though it sounds impossible, I have still not met a single computer science major from NU! Never heard a word of one.

Do they exist at all?

you should call the school and ask for help finding a student with a cs major.. not many people major in cs anymore, but i met a prospective student at notre dame who was one.. lol.

bumping in frustration...

I'm currently a CS major at Northwestern--so I thought you might want to know that we actually do come out of the woodwork every now and then.

The computer science department is amazing at NU; you can choose to get involved in several different research projects. Professors encourage undergraduates to come up with their own research and provide the support, motivation and (sometimes) funding to accomplish this.

I'm actually taking a class from Bob Adolf at the moment, a research practicum on pervasive computing. He and Brian Cornell are testaments to the spirit of the department.

Despite the fact that you haven't met any other CS majors at Northwestern, there's actually quite a few of us. We're always looking for ways to expand the undergraduate culture in the department, and the entire faculty is willing and able to work with you.
