Current & former Exonians..

redpride11, I'm taking math transition 2.

I'm trying not to feel dumb compared to you.

math transition 2 is actually pretty advanced, rebekke...
anyways- i still don't know if ill be able to handle transition 3X...

Haha rebekke, I'm taking transition 2, too.

rebekke, lol don't worry 20P is what most preps go to ^.^
20x is a course designed for lowers... and 20P for preps
and then winter term 20P separates into 202 and 208

and transition 2 is really good too... i think about half go to trans.1, maybe 40%ish to trans 2, and <10% to transition 3

mm yeah i haven't heard of feng teaching 100s or 200s

thanks blee! :)
"and then winter term 20P separates into 202 and 208"

soo if you're doing well, you get put in 208? and the rest goes to 202?

The advanced physics and transition 3 are very tough classes. My older son was put into them his first year (and I am not sure he has ever forgiven me..;)) It did make for a very difficult prep year. He ended up switching out of Mr Feng's class, but he did stay in the physics class.
A little background on his ability..... he was in the Johns Hopkins CTY/SET program and scored a 720 on the math SAT when he 12 years old, he took calculus classes at a local college in middle school, so we thought he was pretty good at all that math stuff.....
The point I would like to make is DO NOT HESITATE to let your teachers know if you feel you were placed incorrectly, the placement process is not a perfect science, and you want to make sure that you are not overwhelmed, especially if this is your first year at Exeter.

Twosonmom gives excellent advice. It's difficult to understand how rigorous the academics are at Exeter until you are there.

You guys are making me very, very nervous about going to transition three and the advanced physics class...

@twosonmom- what math class did your son switch to? and when did your son switch out of mr. feng's math class? in the beginning of fall term?

From what I remember from my T3X class, Mr. Feng dropped around five people from the class after the first test. I got dropped at the end of fall term and went to 311 winter term. but i skipped a bunch of math classes (too easy) and I'm on the same track now as t3x people.

my advice is... don't be nervous and don't be scared of Mr. Feng. He probably will know what's best for you.

Does he give the first test on the first day of class or after a unit of study?

Hi, I'm in incoming prep. I wanted to know anything you guys could tell me about math trans 1 and intro to biology? thank you!

Nice to meet you! I don't know anything about those courses yet, but it's good to see another class of '11er on the board. Do you have a facebook? If so PM me.

No i don't have one yet. i'm just waiting to get my Exonian e-mail address, then I'll make one. Speaking of that, do you know when we are supposed to get our dorm info and stuff. And what year are you? :)

redpride11-- he gives the first test after a unit of study but he might have pop quizzes, I'm not sure, though. he also watches you in class

I heard that we were supposed to get our dorm info somewhere in mid-to-late-august. Not too long to wait. I'm going to be a new prep, so I'm really excited and also a bit nervous about the whole deal.

Thanks, tuesday.
Hey, anonymous27! I'm also an incoming prep at Exeter too! Tom's right, we get our dorm info in mid-August. What other courses did you sign up for?

Other than math trans 1, and bio, I'm also taking:

Junior Studies
French trans 1
classical world: the greeks
health
and boys football

how about you?

How did you sign up for a sport already?

well i was recruited for basketball ... so when the people asked me what other sports i played, i told them and they just plugged my name into a slot i guess? and plus, when we were registering for courses, i think you could have done it then

Oh, ok cool. I play basketball, too. Probably not as well as you, since you were recruited, though.
