thread. In lieu of that (or perhaps someone will!) would some of you care to talk about what a typical week is like for a Freshman (or Sophomore or any other year) at Pace? (Parents of current students are also welcome to comment!)

Some things that might be of interest:
What classes (both academic and performance-related) you currently are taking
What rehearsal experiences (and times)are like
What the tech requirements are and how they are assigned
What it’s like traveling to voice teachers’ studios if you don’t have an on-campus teacher
How much dance do you take (and have you been able to audit extra dance classes if you want)
What is the living situation like (Dorms)
How’s the food?
Do you have time for other on-campus clubs and organizations?
For those who are from far away and/or small towns, how has it been adjusting to NYC?
Anything else you want those of us whose kids are in the process of deciding between programs to know?

My S is a Sophomore MT student at PACE and in the honors program as well. He has enjoyed every second being there, and had no problems adjusting to the city. I spent Christmas with him in NY because he was working an off broadway show and couldn’t come home and I could tell then he had become a “native.” As a freshman he stayed in Maria’s Tower which was ideal because it’s a freshman dorm and the majority of the MT students lived there, so they were able to build very close relationships. The dorm security is very tight and I was never worried about safety and the same for the campus neighborhood with it being downtown. Also Maria’s Tower is in the same building as the school so he didn’t have to go out into the elements for classes and the cafe, just hop on the elevator. This year he shares an apartment near the school with 3 other PACE MT students and he’s really enjoying that. As far as having time for clubs and organizations, you make time for what you want. Traveling to voice lessons was never a problem, the subway station is very close, again being downtown they’re everywhere, and he purchased a monthly subway pass. He’s been very busy with academics and on & off campus shows, which is the great thing about PACE they encourage the students to audition for off campus productions. From his last show he was able to get his equity card. As a parent I’ve been very satisfied with the training and guidance that’s he’s obtained from PACE and he has too. I’ve built relationships with other PACE MT parents and those friendships have been an added bonus, a few of which started on CC. I have so enjoyed going to NY for school and off campus productions. Amy and the few instructors that I’ve met are warm and very approachable, in fact Amy has always approached me to say hello and to comment on my S’s progress. I think that it’s a wonderful school and it’s been a great fit for him.

And I would add to Tracyvp’s list of questions:

How many classes related to musical theatre can acting majors take?
What are the non-arts academic requirements?
What is the focus of the the acting training - classical, contemporary, etc.?
Can you find off-campus housing within walking distance that is affordable?

I know many of these questions will be answered at the April 15th preview weekend, but that only gives her 2 weeks to decide. Pace students, please chime in! Thanks!
