Current Freshman, what are your schedules?

I was hoping some of you would be able to list out the official names of the courses you are in and your prospective major, as to help me (and the rest of us) figure out what is realistic for next year. Thanks! :)

Fall Quarter:
IHUM The Human and the Machine
Math 51: Linear Algebra and Mulitvariable Calculus of Several Variables
Physics 61: Advanced Freshman Physics, Mechanics

Winter Quarter:
IHUM 23a: The Fate of Reason
Math 52: Integral Calculus of Several Variables
Physics 63: Advanced Freshman Physics, E&M
Physics 64: E&M Lab
PWR: Supreme Rhetoric

Spring Quarter:
IHUM 23b: The Fate of Reason
Math 53: Differential Equations and Linear Algebra
Physics 65: Advanced Freshman Physics, Thermodynamics and Modern Physics
Physics 67: Physics Lab
History 36n: Gay Autobiography

how long are the classes, how much homework a night for the classes (assuming for a slower worker), and how much free time do you still have after school work a week?

malrgirl, how many units are each of those (if, for example, all the math is the same, you can just say something like "all math - 3/4/5").

Fall Quarter:
Structured Liberal Education (9)
The Changing American Family (3)
Energy Choices for the 21st Century (3)
Math 51 (5)

Winter Quarter
SLE (9)
Econ 50: Intermediate Micro (5)
Polisci 2: Intro. to American Government (5)

Spring Quarter:
SLE (10)
Econ 52: Intermediate Macro (5)
Polisci 111D: British Politics (5)

Math/physics double major. As you see here, a double major may not allow you a lot of freedom in course choice.

Every quarter: Math 50H series (5), Physics 60 series (4), percussion lessons (1), Wind Ensemble (1), IHUM (5)

Winter quarter: Add an introsem, Mathematics of the Rubik's Cube (3), and physics lab (1)

Spring quarter: Add PWR (4) and physics lab (2)

marlgirl, what's your major?

I'm a physics major. I'll probably end up with a math minor and am contemplating double majoring in psychology with a concentration in cognitive sciences... basically all the classes I'd need to double major are classes I really want to take anyway.

Each unit corresponds to 1 hour of lecture time. IHUM has 2 1-hour lectures and 2 1.5-hour sections. Math has 3 1-hour lectures and 2 1-hour section times. Physics has 2 2-hour lectures and an "optional" section time (to make the units come out right). In theory for each unit you have 2-3 hours of homework per week. So 20 unit courseload means 40-60 hours of work outside of class in theory. IHUM probably takes about 3-4 hours/week (if that) plus however long it takes to write essays. You usually have 2 essays and then a final essay/exam/project. To read the math text, do the problem set, and go over answers with other students probably takes about 6-9 hours/week. PWR probably took more like 8-12 hours/week since you have to write a draft/paper each week, do research for the drafts/papers, etc. And physics... I'd guess that takes about 6-15 hours/week. As you see, the number of units may or may not indicate the amount of work you'll have to do to master the material. Hope that helped!

(BTW, Sly Si is a genius and probably has a more difficult courseload than most students could handle with the Math 50 H series + 60 series physics combination. zephyr151 is also a bit unusual taking 20 units each quarter. Most students take closer to 15 units the first quarter and many students take it a bit easy spring quarter to allow for more free time and prevent burnout at the end of the year.)

(sorry - don't want to interrupt the thread, but could some of you current freshmen please check out the thread: "If only..."? Thanks!)
