How should current freshmen deal with the changes to the SAT? I, for example, would probably score better (relatively) on a vocabulary-based SAT English section, but I would also rather take the SAT in junior year (to coincide with studying for the PSAT). I'm sure many others have similar dilemmas about what to do in response to the changes.
Of course, there's also the ACT, but now it seems like there won't be a significant difference between the ACT and SAT...

I am thinking about this also for my 8th grader, but you are fortunate in that you can just go ahead and take the old SAT in the fall as a junior if you feel the old SAT is a more favorable test for you.

Studying for the PSAT is studying for the SAT. There is no need to have two different ways of studying. Take it during the fall of junior year, which is still the current test.

The PSAT will be the new version for current freshmen and below. So yes, it’s going to be somewhat different style tests for kids during this transitional period, although I haven’t heard much about the planned changes for the PSAT.

@DigitalKing—you will have up to and including the Jan test of your Jr year to take the ‘old format’ SAT. While there will not be a foolproof way to prep for the new PSAT administered Oct of your Jr year, you can certainly prep for the old SAT and take it in Oct, Nov, Dec or Jan of your Jr year.

I believe new format prep resources will be released on Kahn Academy far enough in advance to allow you to attempt to prep for the new PSAT, but as far as I know, the Kahn Academy materials will only address SAT, but you can hope the new PSAT will mirror the new SAT.

I myself am going to take it Fall of Junior year.

Yeah, I’m a current freshman. I be already taken the sat once so I’ll probably take it a final time sophomore of junior year. I also have act because that’s what Illinois prefers
