I filled out the net cost calculator on Purdue’s website and it told me i would get 32k in “other financing options”. Are these private loans? My family makes around 50k a year and there is no way i could afford Purdue if this is the case.

Back up the cost of attendance is around $20k not more than $32k

I’m OOS btw sorry.

Unfortunately, if you are an OOS applicant and don’t qualify for merit awards, your financial aid package will most likely consist of the federal $5,500 Direct/Stafford loan (either subsidized, unsubsidized, or a combination of both) in your name with the resulting “need” consisting of the federal Direct/Parent PLUS loan in your parent’s name. These are not private loans, but you are certainly able to reject them and have your parents pursue private loans instead. Historically, Purdue does not help fund OOS students with need-based aid since these students/parents have not been state income tax contributors. In fact, full pay OOS students are coveted because they are…full pay.

It sounds like you might be a current high school junior. It’s better to find this out now instead of after you have wasted the time and money applying.

Thanks for the info! Definitely won’t be attending.

Is there any place on campus where you can get free food? And can you go to the doctor there for free?

Also, as for loans… would it look suspicious if you rejected the loans they gave you? Do they know where the money’s coming from? (in the case you take a private loan, or another family member tries to help out, or something)

Lol “free food” LOL

Brina: No. If you live in a dorm, you get meal swipes, which are prepaid food at dining halls. And no for the free doctor visits I BELIEVE. I’ve never really gone to PUSH while sick.

No, I totally rejected their loans. Not sure if they know where the money is coming from, doubt they care.

I was wondering if it would be better to go for a random roommate or try and find my own. I’ve always just wanted to go with a random roommate because I’ve heard a lot of good stories from random assignments, and it’s college and a whole new experience, so why not? But if everyone’s finding roommates on their own, I’m kind of worried that all the good roommates will be gone. If I do try and find a roommate on my own, should I find them on facebook or use the online roommate search thing?

Thanks!

You don’t have much time, I am also entering this fall.

There is a difference between: going random, rooming with someone you already know, or finding someone off facebook. I was at first considering going random but than I thought why not try and find someone that matches my interests. Personally going completely random (which the majority of incoming is doing) is trying your luck. Rooming with friend idk about but many say it ranged from good to badish. I say find someone on facebook that matches your interests (doesn’t have to be a perfect match) and housing choices. If you don’t find one than oh well.

You are in the Class of 2017 Purdue page on there? Roommate search is peaking. Now is the time.

Edit: and no all the “good ones” won’t be gone. There are probably like 7000 other incomings going random ._.

Do the scholarship thank you letters have to be different? I mean, I pretty much want to say the same thing to everyone, and I don’t want to go into detail, either. There’s not much to say except thank you, you are generous and amazing, I really appreciate it, etc. lol.

Thank you letter for scholarships???

I just want to know about the computer science program at purdue. Is it as competitive as engineering? Does it make any difference that it is in the college of science? How does it compare to Penn State CS? And which school offers better college experience ( i mean besides academics) between Purdue and Penn State?

@Pranesh:
Here are some posts on this thread about Computer Science:

@Descuff : I already read that but my main question is how does the CS program compare to that of Penn State? and which college offers the better college experience?

I don’t think they can answer that. Maybe you should ask about their experience and go to Penn forum and ask there and compare…

In your opinions, what are the best resources that Purdue provides to his freshman students (engineering) ? Which ones are a must for any freshman trying to make sure that they start with the right foot?

Could you get a scholarship with a 28 ACT and 4.3 weighted 3.96 unweighted gpa?

Dual credit question: say I got fuel credit in AP chem. What class(es) at Purdue do I already have credit for? I seen the AP list but not the dual credit list.
