Current Junior thinking about applying to IU - Chance me?

Hi!

I’m currently a junior in high school and I am thinking about attending IU. I visited their campus over spring break and it was really amazing :slight_smile:

Anyways, here are my stats:
SAT:2010
GPA:2.97 UW 3.1 W (I had a family death that put me into some really bad depression, and I really screwed up Q3 of my junior year with a “D” in AP English and Filmmaking.
Courseload: 1 Accelerated class Sophomore year, 2 APs Junior year.
School doesn’t rank
Decent amount of in school and out of school extracurriculars

I know my stats are pretty weak, but could anyone chance me? Thanks!

What was your SAT without the writing? My only advice would be try the ACT, and do as well as possible first semester. If you don’t get rejected immediately, they are going to want to see your first semester grades. I think you have a chance if you do well 1st semester next year, but definitely make sure you have other options.

Thanks for your reply. I’m at 680 Reading, 680 Math, and 660 Writing. So without writing I have a 1360

Are you in-state or out-of-state? What is your class rank?

I’m out of state going to a pretty competitive high school that doesn’t rank.

Your GPA is lower than average for IU. That’s going to hurt your chances. Your SAT scores are a bit above average. That will help. Although not required for IU admission you definitely need to submit recommendations and the optional essay to improve your chances.

I have read that IU will start using the Common App this year instead of it’s own application.

For your best chance, apply as soon as the application is opened. In previous years this has been the first week of August.
