Hi, this is my current schedule:

1) AP Lang

2) Honors Spanish 4

3) Business*

4) Pre-Calculus

5) US History

6) AP Comp Sci

*As you can see, I have no interest in taking this business class, so I need to switch it, and I have one week to waiver it for a class. I want to take either AP Stat or AP Psych, but don't know which!

So I guess make suggestions about my schedule, and tell me what you think of it.

Thanks!

You’re missing a core science (physics, chemistry, or biology). I would take one of those, especially in junior year.

AP Psych is awesome. It was one of my favorite classes this year. I think you should take Psych. Also, you should consider upgrading USH, to APUSH.

What do you want to major in? If it’s something Math/Science related, take Stats. If it’s not, take Psych or whichever you’re more interested in. Stats seems like it would make your schedule more balanced, though.

Oh yeah - take a science. I totally missed the fact that you’re missing one.

Also, where’s your science class as PP said?

@Sophia and Rachel - I took Honors Biology last year as a freshman and am currently taking Honors Chemistry as a sophomore. AP Comp Sci counts as a science credit at my school, with 4 minimum science credits needed to graduate. I plan on taking Physics senior year. Honors Bio+Honors Chem+AP Comp Sci+Physics=4 credits to graduate

@Rachel - Yeah, my current history teacher teaches Psych, and he’s fantastic and the course seems quite interesting in general. I really enjoy science-type classes that aren’t math related.

@yankees - I want to major in Business, probably Marketing or a type of Management (ironic that I don’t want to take the business course i know lol, but I would prefer 3 AP courses junior year) I’m going to take both in high school for sure, I just need to choose one for junior year.

Your school doesn’t offer any AP Economics classes? That seems like it would fit with a business major. Regardless, I would take AP Stats. It seems like a more useful class to me. But junior year will be stressful enough as it is, so do whichever you will enjoy more.

^ There are AP Micro and AP Macro courses, but you must be a senior. I plan on taking them senior year.

Hey, I’m new here so excuse me if I am breaking any rules by asking this but do you happen to go to a school in Fulton County? Specifically, Johns Creek.

If the business class is Business Essentials, drop it as I had to take it and it was a total waste of time.

AP Stat is, to be blunt, easier if you enjoy math. Coincidentally, Psych is easier if you enjoy social sciences. Whichever you feel is more enjoyable for you should be the best decision. Personally, I feel Stat would be more useful if you go into the business world, but I can also see how Psych could also apply.

Regards

I think you should choose a different science ap

Id reccomend stat since you are only taking precalc. Both Stat and Psych are generally easy, Id say psych would be the easier one out of the two.

AP Comp Sci doesn’t count as a science for colleges. It’s under math. You need a science. If you want to get into a top notch college is has to be some type of bio chem of physics. I would suggest AP Chem since you want another AP class. Plus its pretty much the same as chem honors except adding in a concept or two. Also for Jr. year its best to get at least 3 5s for AP Tests so if you don’t know if you can get a 5 on all of them then I would recomend adding more AP classes (specifically Apush and skipping to Calc BC)

Good luck!

@flabbergaster - Thanks for the advice, no I’m not at Johns Creek, but I am in Fulton.

@Bassoonapus - By that, do you mean not taking Comp Sci? Programming is one of my hobbies and passions, I’m definitely taking the class.

@bricksquad - Do you think getting a 4/5 is easier in Psych? Thanks btw

@quintamonious - I’m not taking Comp Sci for colleges; I’m taking it because I enjoy programming and because it counts as a science credit for HS graduation. I honestly hate chemistry, so I don’t plan on AP Chem. I am interested in APUSH, but I honestly don’t have the time for the extra work, I have multiple jobs and run a business. I’d love to skip to calc BC but I’m horrible at math. Thanks for your opinion, so would you recommend stat or psych?

Yes. The Psych exam is known to be one of the easiest, its much easier to get a 4/5 in psych then stat.

@usasoccer.
Do Physics Honors

Doesn’t matter what the Comp Sci AP credit counts for. What matters is to colleges this looks like a year without science. It doesn’t matter what you high school thinks of it as, colleges will see a year without science. You NEED science EVERY year. No exception.

If you want to add an extra class but don’t have the time for APUSH or Calc BC then you shouldn’t be adding AP Stats or AP Psych. Neither of them will help you. . If you absolutely need AP Stats then do Stats instead of Precalc and then skip to Calc for Sr. year. Psych is a BS AP and colleges know it. They can see through AP trolls who just try to take as many APs as possible to get into college. Don’t fall into that rut.

I really think the OP needs to understand that APCS is not a CORE science. Sure, the word science is in there but that does not mean much. Also, if you are not taking classes for colleges, then why even bother with APs? I know that you are taking classes that you like, but seriously, you are taking classes to please people who are going to ensure your future is secure. You could always take those classes when you go to college.

Taking a CORE science every year is not only recommended but is almost always required. I would seriously take physics if I were you.

Also, you don’t have any AP science classes so I would really look into that even if you will not be majoring in Science. Try taking AP Biology if you don’t like AP Chem. If you don’t like science point blank (I hope this is not the case) then I’m sorry to say that college will not be a great ride.

All colleges require science classes to grant you your bachelor’s degree and chemistry is one of them. Also, college Chemistry will be considerably harder than high school. I would highly suggest becoming more open towards science since it will tag along for a LONG time.
