Current MUP student considering joint MUP/JD program

Hey guys,

So the title says it all. I’m currently a first year Master of Urban Planning student and I am considering applying to my school’s joint MUP/JD program.

My reasons for doing this are because I would like to work in the realm of planning, econ dev, public policy, and environmental conservation but I would like to create policies rather than simply implement them. I am also interested in local/regional forms of government and politics. I would love to hold a public office one day or be an advisor to a public official.

I guess what I’m getting at is do you think that law school is worth it given what I said that I would like to do or would an MUP be sufficient?

Law school isn’t worth it unless you want a career in law. It doesn’t sound like you do.

I don’t know enough about an MUP to comment on it but a JD is a waste of time and money for your situation.
