Hi current northwesterners,
I was wondering if you can point out a couple things that you like about northwestern. I didnt get a chance to visit the campus and I was wondering if you guys can tell me something about it so I can do more in depth research for my essay.

I had never been here before new student week, and i love the campus already. it's beautiful, big but not overwhelmingly so, friendly, and there are tons of things to do. its close proximity to chicago is also a huge plus.

on the downside, although i'm not a huge party-girl, i can tell that parties here are def. not at all like those at state schools ... you really do have to make an effort to look for them. greek life also seems to be different from other schools, very ... equitable.

Well I'm in Allison but I hang out mostly with friends in Bobb, cause it's more fun up there ^^

And yes, I do think there is a wide range of students here. No need to worry about finding diversity (be it ethnic, religious, political, social, etc.)

yeah it's pretty diverse over here, and the social scene depends on what dorm you're in and how much of an effort you're willing to make with friends and parties. overall beautiful campus, nice professors (TAs are a bit iffy, there are quite a bit who don't speak good english or just don't teach well at all), and great academic resources. TONS of student activities too.

It's... really awesome. Campus isn't too bad to navigate and very scenic. The social scene is great, although as has been said it depends on your dorm. Res Colleges = easy way to meet new people, because you have a ton of **** to do together. The only time it's hard to find a party is really late on a heavy party night because most of them get broken up. Just befriend some frat guys and you should never have a problem.

Um... classes are fine too, hard as predicted, but use CTECs to make a schedule that has different types of classes that fit well together. For example, 3/4 of my classes have some focus on sociology, so it's easy to read the material because a lot of it overlaps (but it's not three soc classes). One of them only has two tests and that's it. One has three papers but no tests. One has group projects and one test. And the last one has very hard tests and quizzes. So it's a nice balance and I don't feel overloaded at all. If you plan your schedule well in advance and use your advisors, first quarter should be a breeze. (Also, don't take orgo. All my friends in orgo get up at like 7 EVERY DAY and they hate it.)

Basically, it's a great environment... if you have any questions feel free to IM me ("so danny said" -sn) and I'd be happy to help. I love it here.

I second the diversity bit...I have met some many different people with different ideas and backgrounds...it's been wonderful. The student body here is extremely passionate...everyone is always excited about something...and people tend to be very involved as well. It's such a fun environment.
