I'm not exactly sure but top 8% of HS class-approx 3.7UW GPA, all AP and honors classes. SAT-1970 (720M, 600CR, 650W), 740 SAT II in Math, AP bio-4, AP psych-5, AP Physics-4, AP calc-4. Varsity tennis, bass guitar player among other ECs. His recs were excellent but not so sure about his essays.

BTW India, when we went to the info session for GSP- there were few if any GSPers who had applied to Stern. The overwhelming majority had applied to CAS. The Dean of GSP made it very clear that to transfer from GSP to Stern was tantamount to impossible unless your initial application was to Stern and you were offered GSP instead. In fact, my recollection is that he said there were NONE in the previous 2 years. GSPers are guaranteed transfer to CAS or whatever school applied to after the 2 yr GSP program (if a 3.0 GPA is maintained) but don't hold out ANY hope to 'backdoor' into Stern thru GSP.
What I'm also saying is that it appears to me that very few GSP offers are made to Stern applicants.

wait so it makes no sense, why are people not wanting to go to gsp, i'm starting to think gsp is better than stern because when you transfer to stern you will have high gpa cuz gsp isn't as compettive as stern, when applying for intership it doesn't show you were gsp only shows stern, so wouldn't it be better and easier to be gsp?

You cannot apply to GSP-it is apparently offered as an alternative to being rejected to the school of choice.

so it was ur sons sat's and essays(probably essays) that killed him.

Killed him? He's quite happy with his situation. I think I've made that clear.

Actually, I read his essays and thought they were fine- but aren't they subjective?

I just got notified today that I was deferred at Columbia, although this was a dissapointment, I still have hope. 3.9 GPA (one B in Honors comm., one B!) student body president, plenty of EC's, not an outstanding ACT score. but i feel if i didnt get 'rejected' (at least right away) from columbia i have a good shot at NYU, what do ya'll think?

A very good shot at NYU and who knows, you may get into Columbia.

no
i understand he's happy
im saying
could they have been one of the reason's he got GSPed?

oh yeah

scrowman
do u see ur kid alot

cause i know for me my parents dont want me to leave california

is that ever a problem for u (not seeing ur child) or do u live really close to the school

BIG--It is not a problem to not see him much. We keep in touch thru internet or cell phone when needed but give him his space. We live in CT but have only seen him once in NYC-when we went to parents' day. He's come home on train to see his girlfriend at another college.
BTW-his roommate is from CA and his parents were at parents' day. And the roommate LOVES NY!
