Hi, for those students that received fin. aid from nyu

a) what did you need to be able to attend nyu
b) what did they give you
c) is nyu notorious for giving out loans...or is the little bit of aid they give you mostly grants
d) other than loans, what are you nyu students doing to defray the costs of attendance

thanks

I had an expected family contribution from the FAFSA of only $4,000 a year. So, my NYU tutition had to be covered almost entirely by financial aid, and it was. In fact, NYU says that I got a full aid package (ie - tuition is entirely covered by aid).

However, only around $3,000 per semester of that financal aid consists of actual grant money. All of the rest is in loans. And....even those $6,000 per year are not need-based. It's a merit scholarship that I would have gotten regardless of my financial position. So, I do not get a penny in need-based grants or scholarships from financial aid.

It would have been impossible for me to do this, but some very generous family members are helping me get through college.

i actually got 20k a year in grants. most of their grants/scholarships w/e u want to call them are either based on academics or academics and financial aid..... very little grant money is given to you at all based only on financial aid. so if you barely got in, and your poor chances are your f'ed up the ass without vaseline. the most money they give out it 25k i think, unless your like an intel finalist or something.

basically, learn to love loans.
