I am a High School Junior and I have looked at a few summer programs within the last two months or so but I did not make it a priority. Now most summer programs have stopped accepting applications and have already picked their students. If there are still any open summer programs that any one knows of I'd sure like to check them out. I'm interested in medical sciences, forensic science, and also graphic design. This is my last summer to do something outstanding before I have to apply for colleges. I'd really appreciate the help.

That’s irrelevant.

Can I ask you something? Because you sound a little desperate here–what is your main motivation for participating in a summer program? Is it to further your knowledge in a certain field and contribute to your personal development? Or is it to have something “outstanding” (very few programs offer that sort of impact) on your college resume?

Sorry, I guess I did sound pretty desperate but I’m at the stage in my life where I don’t know what I would like to major in or what I would like to be when I’m older. I have a few interests as I mentioned in my first post but I would like to further my knowledge in these particular fields so I can narrow my choices down and acquire new experiences.

That’s quite all right.

A summer program just for that probably isn’t going to be worth the money–and, as you said, almost all of them have stopped accepting applications, so the only remaining ones will cost you a couple thousand dollars–so you should explore other options. For example, can you still enroll in classes at a local community college? You could also volunteer (at a hospital, perhaps?), or find a job/internship (a design agency?).

I wrote this on my UCLA Summer Session & Discovery thread but I’ll post it here again…

UCLA’s summer session is still open to register for. There’s quite a bit of courses to choose from however some may be full at this point. If you’re desperate take a look, maybe you’ll find something you like.

If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to try and help :]

Also, I do agree with chaseholl. These summer programs are a quite a bit of money. UCLA, if you’re taking the average 2 courses for 8 credits total with housing (+ meals) then it’ll be around 5 grand. Then you’ve got to add in books, travel expenses etc… :x

Hi! If you’re interested in global health issues, our summer program at the UNITED NATIONS is still accepting applications. Please contact me at jenny@mmcnyc.com. we will be conducting interviews the next two weeks if you are in nyc!
