Current or Past Cornellians..Opinions on best Housing?

The title says it all.
I'm a freshman going into Cornell next fall, and registration for Housing starts this Thursday..I haven't done much research but I would value people's opinions on a couple questions..
Did you have a roomate freshman year and did you like it? Do you suggest others to have a roomate?
Which, in your opinion, was the best Residence hall..?

Thanks to all

freshman housing is randomly assigned (with a few limitations) so there is no sense in falling in love with a particular dorm.

fin aid covers a double - if you are needing fin aid and request a single and get it you will not receive additional aid to cover your single costs. if you request a double and are assigned a single FinAid will adjust your package to reflect that.

money is not an issue (absolute zero fin aid hah!:() but my parents are MAKING me get a roomate.
I just wanted to know what dorm to put as a preference, in the small case that I do get what I picked for.

Again, you can’t choose specific dorms as preference, except for Balch (if you’re a girl), townhouses, or program houses. If you don’t want any of those, all you can do is choose first preference: double, and wait for the outcome.

My D signed up for double and ended up in a single. Since we did not get financial aid other than loans and work study, they wanted us to pay the extra $1000! We simply could not afford it. Eventually after a lot of phone calls, they moved her to a double in Donlon. She loves her roommate and loves Donlon.

As the previous poster said you cannot choose, you just have to trust the process. But if something goes really wrong, there are some people who switch or don’t show up which is how my D ended up in her spot.

The people at Cornell are great so you will get a good roommate in all likelihood.
