Current Oxy Students Here to Answer Questions!

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah and I am a student intern at the Office of Admission. If you have any questions about Occidenal (life on campus, clubs/activities, academics) feel free to ask! Several other students and I are available to answer any and all questions :)

Hi Sarah, since you offered…I will ask the question that is on everyone’s minds: when is Oxy mailing its decisions? How can we leave on spring break without a clue?
Can you let us know any specifics? :))

Just saw the photos on FB!!! Decisions in the mail!!! So close…

Yes! As you already noticed via Facebook, Oxy mailed out decisions today. It’s a very exciting time for everyone!

How likely is a student deferred from ED admitted during the RD round?

Do you know how the graduates do after graduation? I am concerned about usual liberal arts graduates not being able to get any jobs :stuck_out_tongue: Does it apply to Oxy graduates too??

Hi Sarah - S received the acceptance letter with Trustee scholarship today. Could you tell us more about Oxy Orchestra.

Hi Sarah -
For people who are away on spring break, is there any portal or way to find out our admissions decisions?

I live in Massachusetts, yet I have not received my decision. Were all decisions mailed on the same day or only acceptances?

Hi!
What can you tell me about the outdoor club?

Hi Sarah, I’m curious how interactive Oxy is with the city of LA. Is it too far or do many students come in and out?

I would say that Oxy students are in good shape to find jobs post-graduation! The Career Development Center on campus is a great resource for students who want to find jobs during a school semester, the summer, or after graduation. I know so many people who used the CDC to find jobs.

Oxy’s Orchestra members work closely with music groups at Caltech to form The Occidental-Caltech Symphony, which consists of instrumentalists from Occidental, Caltech, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and members of the community. I myself have been to many of the Oxy-Caltech Symphony performances and they are an extremely talented bunch. For more detailed info I suggest visiting Oxy’s music page at oxy.edu/music

Downtown LA is only about 10 minutes away from Oxy, without traffic. Hollywood is about 20 and Silverlake only 5. Oxy is situated in an almost perfect way that allows students to travel easily to different parts of Los Angeles. I know many deparments (film, music, Urban and Environmental Planning) often take students on field trips around LA and students also find internships in the greater LA area. Overall, I would say Oxy students work very closely with the city of Los Angeles.

How are general education requirements? Is it possible for students to complete them quickly, even when they have double majors or whatnot? Can AP test credits be used to complete GE requirements?

Were transfer applicant letters sent out on the 21st also? Or when will that occur? Thank you.

Core requirements definitely get done faster than you would expect! Sometimes one class can knock out two requirements, or you might be fulfilling certain requirements with a class without even knowing it! All in all, you broaden your education, but it is not tedious or hard to get through.

I’m also curious as to when transfers will be notified!

Hey 5brownies and als926, I also work in the admissions office! Transfer decisions are made and released on a rolling basis and will come out closer to May.

Thank you Lizlemon59. Is there a portal we can check on, or must we wait for snail mail? Much appreciate your responses.
