Ask away :)

How’s the social life? How’s the campus?

Can you talk to Dean Furda and get him to switch me from deferred to accepted?

The social life here is AMAZING! There is literally something here for everyone. Most people have very polar personalities, like Sunday through Wednesday everyone is obviously very into their schoolwork but Thursday through Saturday everyone is extremely social and puts schoolwork aside. Greek life definitely has a large presence on campus but I do know quite a few people not rushing in the spring. Also, people who do like to go out usually split into two sub groups, those that go down town and those that stay on campus. The big night to go downtown (center city) to clubs is Thursday. Fridays are usually relatively quiet but Saturdays are big. People that like to stay on campus usually go to frats or bars in west Philly.

The campus itself is absolutely amazing!! There’s so much to say about it so if you could be more specific I can definitely go into more detail :)

Is Scholars Preview worth it?
Did you go to it? And, if you did, how was it?

How long after the decision do you receive the acceptance letter in the mail?

How many people are involved in frats? Will I feel isolated if I don’t join one?

FIVEtrain, I’m going to totally cut in front of oceane’s answer here.

YES. Scholar’s preview is worth it. Only a couple hundred students get to go and it was GREAT. Penn houses you for two nights with current undergrads (usually freshmen and sophomores) and you get to eat, go on tours, meet lots of people, and check out different classes and services on campus. I really recommend going if you can. I even met my roommate while I was there!

Btw, if anyone has more questions, you can email me or message me. Don’t be shy!

OMGOMGOMGOMG what do i need to buy for Whaton/penn clothing? It is fairly causal?

Awww, jreeder. Why’d you have to say that? Now I feel totally bummed that I can’t go!
I’ll just have to convince my mom to allow me to miss 3 days of school.
Wish me luck!!!

@fivetrain I was invited to go to Scholar’s preview but wasn’t able to attend, so don’t worry if you can’t go, five train!! Only so many people get invited to attend, so it’s not like you’ll feel isolated on campus or anything once you get here, but I’ve heard great things about it like jreeder has said so if you do get the chance to go, definitely do it!

@collegebound624 it depends on how far away you live from philadelphia, but i am from approx. 2 hours away and received it the day after decisions were released

@wharton17 i am not in wharton, but my friends that are in wharton wear suits and formal business attire on days that they have status reports and things like that. i wish i could say more about the subject but i wouldn’t want to give you false information! i’ll talk to my friends in wharton though and ask them for details, but from my understanding and from what i see around campus they do get dressed up for presentations and stuff

@d3nt4l if I’m not mistaken, approximately 30% of the student body is involved in greek life. when you first get to penn for NSO (which, by the way, is possibly the best weekend of your life), it seems like the social life at penn revolves around frats, but as the semester continues you’ll see it definitely has a presence but it’s not mandatory for anyone to join. i would highly encourage you to not take into account ANYTHING you’ve heard about greek life at other schools, because every school, frat, and rush/pledge process is VERY different. I am a girl and did not want to rush in the beginning but after talking to upperclassmen and hearing what a positive experience greek life was for them, I’ve signed up to rush! Plus, just because you rush doesn’t mean you have to pledge/join a frat/sorority, so there isn’t really anything to lose by trying! but if you’re really against joining or rushing, it is definitely not detrimental to your social life.

Is there any way for me to confirm that I actually got in to Penn 100%? I was accepted on the portal but I applied to a really competitive dual degree program (LSM) and I feel like I was really underqualified. I’m obviously elated but I just want to be 100% sure before I withdraw my other apps.

@kbolisetty23 Congrats on getting into Penn AND LSM!! I’m not in LSM, but I have a friend that is and she absolutely LOVES it! I am currently in a couple hard classes, chem, psych, math 104, and writing seminar and can honestly say that first semester senior year was ten times MORE stressful than this past semester. If you know how to manage your time, you will be fine I PROMISE!! Teachers are super accessible and definitely want to see you succeed. Trust me on this, Penn WOULD NOT have accepted you if they didn’t think you could handle the workload. My one friend definitely has a lot of work, but she never seems too overwhelmed. I can say from first-hand experience that the college is not insanely challenging to the point where you want to die, but will definitely make you work. And speaking for my friends in Wharton, they of course work extremely hard but they have told me that it’s definitely not as hard as they expected. Is it just academics you’re worried about? I promise you, it is manageable here. Actually, I have an exam tomorrow, which I started studying for today, and am now procrastinating by hanging out on CC I study on average 12 hours a week outside of class and currently have all grades above a 90. Writing seminars are easy but time consuming, so if you can do that with less demanding classes that would be advisable. PM me if you have any other concerns!!

@kbolisetty23 sorry i completely misread your question… but NO YOU GOT IN I PROMISE!!! when i got in i thought they made a mistake too…hell sometimes even now i am still in shock i got in and that i am actually here, considering my sat score is laughable, especially for cc standards. like i literally thought i had no chance. a lot of my friends didn’t think they were going to get in, either. but trust me, you did :)

^Haha thanks for assuaging my fears. Years of reading CC have completely eroded my self-esteem, I think.

@kbolisetty no worries!! and yes, that is entirely possible. i posted my stats (under a different name, waaaay back) under a chance me thread and was eaten alive and basically told i would only make it at community college, and here i am. the problem with CC is that the only thing they can really use to compare applicants are SATs, which suck. they really cannot take into account ec’s, gpa, etc. which they totally do in admissions. trust me, you will absolutely love penn and find the workload challenging but manageable.

I can answer questions too! I am a freshman at Penn!

bump 10char

How long does it take to get the envelope in the mail? Haha I feel like my mind won’t fully accept that I’ve gotten in until I see the physical letter.
