^^def take placement tests for french and russian and try to place out

ugh we are opposite. I forget all russian vocab but have the cases and stuff down pat. If we could somehow collaborate for the placement tests…

How far is the dining hall from the high rises?
Is it true that Rodin has a Jewish community?
What about Fisher Hassenfeld? And how far away is that from the diining hall?

Thank you!!!

here is a map

[Maps & Buildings @ Penn](http://www.facilities.upenn.edu/mapsBldgs/view_map.php3?id=8)

note the location of harrison, rodin, and harnwell in relation to 1920 commons

rodin has an orthodox community but it is not open to freshmen for this coming year

fisher hassenfeld is a little further away but not by much

The cafes in the high rises do not accept dining dollars; they only accept cash or PennCash. The one in Harrison does sell some frozen/canned food so I guess you could get a couple meals but no real meals.

I live in Harrison and I love it; what sold me when I was looking at housing was the fact that I’d get a kitchen, living room, and private bathroom (3bdrm-quad) for the same cost as a double in the Quad. Admittedly, especially this semester, I don’t use the kitchen that often but it’s nice to have the option of frying up some eggs in the morning or cooking some simple meals on the weekends. This year the FreshEx program is pretty tight-knit; I’ve heard in previous years that wasn’t the case though. Another benefit to living in Harrison (or the other high rises) is that you are guaranteed housing in upper years if you decide to stay in-house (in-house applications are done about a month before inter-house)

Which is better for a freshman, staying at the quad or the high rises?

@pop13, depends on the experience you’re going for. In the Quad, it’s going to be easier to meet other freshmen just because practically the entire housing-complex is freshmen. In the high rises it can be harder, but they do put all the freshmen together on the same floor to try and facilitate things. Besides, you’ll have plenty of other opportunities to meet people: classes, clubs, etc.

pop i think they both are good. at quad it will be easier to meet freshman. High rises are obviously nicer. I think it is about your priorities. I am still torn between the two.

Thank you SOOO much!! This should count as work-study or something because it’s a major service for prospective students.
Colleges like Brown let you eat whenever you want but are there fixed dining times at Penn? Can you ask Pennwalk and Pennride to walk you to dinner if you’re like really late or something?

Also what is Harnwell like? I have no sense of its personality or its specialties…

@cdn_dancer: Thanks for your reply. Would the chances of moving into the high rises be harder if i don’t stay there in my first year? How are the rooms like in the quad?

@Excepted: Lol I still can’t make up my mind either (^_^)

regarding dining hours:

[Welcome to PennDining](http://www.campusdish.com/en-US/CSE/PennDining/ResidentialDining/ResidentialDiningHours.htm)

honestly there is no reason you should have to call security for an escort to get to the dining halls during these times - there’s plenty of people out and about

Thank you.

I like Fisher Hassenfeld and Harnwell, so my question would be which of the two is more conducive to studying and less partying and which one has bigger singles?

Does Fisher Hassenfeld have rodent problems? It also seems like it’s a little out of the Penn bubble. Is that true?

Just one more question: I have to admit that it seems like an advantage to live at Hill because you can just do the meals and everything from your own home - even though you would have to bring a fun because of the lack of AC. The only thing is, do you have to pay more to eat there even if you live at Hill?
And also, what do Hill students specialize in. Ex: Gisher H. is law/communication?

Thank you sooooooooooooooooooo much.

harnwell is more conducive to studying, has less partying noise, i suppose, and single size in fisher varies (and you won’t get a single room in harnwell as a freshman, but perhaps your own room within a double, triple, or quad apartment)

i’m sure fisher has rodent problems but again nothing will happen as long as you aren’t careless

and out of the bubble? not sure how you got that impression…

Is ware house part of the quad?

quad = fisher, ware, riepe

did you get the housing brochure yet? i feel like this would answer so many of your questions

[College Houses and Academic Services](http://www.collegehouses.upenn.edu/brochure/)

Thanks. It doesn’t matter anyway though because Penn denied me financial aid which is weird because my parents did horribly this year, making below 50k but whatever. guess I’m not going to Penn.

What meal plan do you recommend?

Hmm, thats interesting, a few people in this forum actually consider upenn girls to be attractive. (I’m not saying i don’t but from what i saw in college ranking sites, the response is different). Anyways i guess thanks for the feedback =D

Wow you’re really vain. you shouldn’t be worried about the way girls at your college will look
