Hey all! I know the 'current Penn Freshmen' threads that were active last year helped me in my process a lot. I was regular decision and read these threads to see if Penn was a good fit for me socially, especially since I never did an overnight stay. So I've decided to try my hand at them in a way of giving back :)
I'll try to respond as often as possible. I'm pretty busy (my a capella preformance is next weekend, If you're in town come see the Inspiration and Onda Latina collaborate *end shamelss promotion), but I wanted to start now in case any EDers had final questions :)

One thing I cannot really do is chance people. Admissions is very selective, and almost everyone who applies has the ability to get in. But I will answer any questions about social life, my experience in classes (I'm in nursing, but I can ask friends in the college too), being involved in the community, any just about anything else.

So good luck in the admissions process and ask away!

There is an interview session conducted by Upenn Alumni in my country, but I will be out of town during that period. How will this affect my application?

If you are just a “normal” CAS freshman - how competitive is the atmosphere? And is there a lot of interaction between the school or do the students from each of the schools break off into their own groups without really intermingling?

Huntsman kids are some of the loudest, most outgoing people I’ve seen (most drunk too) that they may compete for top spot with the quad people.

Dining hall food is really good to make you switch to unlimited, then it goes downhill very quickly. Pizza in dining halls aren’t too bad, but I don’t really eat pizza.

The looks of the girls depend totally on the person. Frat question you shouldn’t be asking to a freshman.

I’m a girl, but I’ll admit there are some attractive girls. The style here seems to be bohemian, so most of the girls dressed that way. It’s actually similar to high school – you can see the girls drunkingly hooking up with guys at frat parties, girls wearing the shortest skirts you’ll ever see in freezing cold weather, girls huddled in the library, and girls who look normal? A lot of girls I hang out with are out going, but there are some bookworms on my floor.

I drink but dont do drugs, and I have found the social scene to be just fine. There are people who smoke, but truly, if you don’t want to be involved, nobody would force you.

You should be fine. I’ve heard interviews dont weigh too heavily. I had one, but another girl from my school wasn’t asked to have one, and we both got in. :)

My boyfriend was in bio in the college and he said the atmosphere was pretty intense. Apparently people did not want to share notes from class and were very curt with answering questions, as they did not want to share information. Another friend of mine on the other hand has class tuesday-thursday and a four day weekend. He says his schedule is pretty lax. It truly depends what your major is.

A lot of the intermixing comes from college houses. Being in nursing, I am lucky to have one person on my floor (my roommate actually) who happens to be a nurse, everyone else is in the other three schools. Because of this, I have had a lot of interaction with students from the other schools. This being said, I know some engineers tend to stay to themselves, I’m assuming due to their heavy course load they’re probably studying (Not trying to be discriminatory, just something I noticed).

I only know one person in Huntsman and he finds it difficult to acclimate to. It should be noted that he is an international student so his education is slightly different, but he says the course load is pretty heavy. That being said, he does have a pretty active social life
I cant really comment on the facility because I dont know much more than what I’ve just said. Sorry ):

And no problem!

I find the food to be okay. Some days are very good, some days are terribly off. I rank the dining halls as such: Hill, Kings Court, and Commons. I may be biased to Hill because i live here, but I think it offers the widest variety of food. There is also a ‘good for you’ section which often has healthy choices. Kings Court is VERY vegetarian friendly. One downside is that it’s closed on weekends. Commons is disgusting to me. They have pretty good pizza, but I hate everything about it. I find the food greasy and just all around gross. Some of my friends like it though.
By the way, you REALLY need to focus on portions, as I’ve already seen people gaining weight. It took a few pounds for me to realize how easy it is to eat, and eat, and eat.

And I like Allegros pizza personally. It’s pretty popular on campus.

If I remember right that means you have nothing else to turn in.

It doesn’t matter what school you’re in, you will find yourself in very competitive situations. Don’t worry about not intermingling - you WILL become friends with people from other schools.

^yeah all it means is that they will put things they need from you that they have not received there. outstanding does not mean exceptional or noteworthy in this case

The connection is alright. You can access it from all over campus, but the stregnth of your connection varies. I get as little as 2-3 bars in my room sometimes, and a friend of mine with a mac cant get signal at his computer desk…
