@chutney333,
I will PM you with stats / answers to stats related questions.
I think Cornell is pretty good for pre-med, though the intro bio/chem classes are challenging. However, I feel prepared to for the hard core med school classes, and I’ve grown exponentially in terms of time management. I’ve only been to Cornell though, so I can’t really compare with other ivies!
I just wanted to say that from this point on, I’d be super happy to answer any questions specifically related to Cornell, but I’d appreciate if questions on college apps in general be directed to other threads where past admissions officers and other more experienced members can reply! I’m only a student and my insight/advice is very limited in the admissions area. Thank you!
I plan to ED Cornell and I want to study computer science. I know the difference requirements for AS vs. Eng but which school is easier to get into?
I am very likely appying ED to the College of Engineering, but the only thing holding me back would be the admissions statistics. Everything about Cornell looks great; I just couldn’t help but notice the male acceptance rates to the College of Engineering. I am confident in my abilities as a student, but 6% is incredibly low for me to risk a shot at ED. If you had to be honest, should I apply elsewhere where the acceptance rates for ED are a little more in my favour (i.e. ≥10%)?
Where did you get those admit rates? Are those same admits rats available for Arts & Sciences?
@shredd, Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the place where you’re getting those acceptance numbers are the overall acceptance rate for males in the College of Engineering, Not ED. Cornell actually has a pretty good number for ED advantage and is on par with its peer institutions. I would keep in mind that ED is binding, and my personal advice would be to apply to your dream school since all top tier schools are hard to get into and lots of the admissions process if up to fit and sheer luck sometimes. Good luck!
@banditofrito, Depends. Just with sheer stats, for regular admissions, Arts and Sciences is slightly higher than Engineering. But, if you show interest in STEM only, you may have a harder time getting into A&S than Eng. My point is that the two colleges are not looking for the same type of student since their student body visions are different. I will say though, everyone I know in the College of Engineering are extremely talented individuals who are very math-oriented. However, that’s not to say A&S doesn’t have the same students - I just don’t personally know them since there are so many more majors. Hence, if you show interest in humanities, my understanding is that A&S will be less competitive relative to Eng. This is just my personal opinion though, and in reality, both colleges are just difficult to get into so I wouldn’t obsess over a few percentage points. Hope this helps a little!
@ehales3 Can you explain about the long bus rides? Do you mean that going from dorm to classes and from one class to another can require long bus rides because the Cornell campus is so large?
@LostFan, Can you quote what I specifically said about the bus rides?? I can’t seem to find where I talked about this for some reason, but to elaborate, bus rides are really the source of transportation for freshmen because lots don’t have cars. Personally, I didn’t use the bus that often going from one class to another. It only feels like a long walk the first couple weeks, and then you can get from one side of campus to the other pretty quickly. Maybe it’s just a matter of perspective lol. Sometimes students want to ride buses from class to class when it’s raining, super cold, or at night. BUT, bus rides to Target or Wegmans can be long, especially depending on which route you take. However, if you’re with friends then you make lots of memories! I guess upperclassmen without cars that live far off campus would take the bus, but I think this would be a different topic to talk about.
Hey, I’m a junior in high school right now and I’m also interested in pre-med. Do you mind sharing with me your stats, extracurriculars, and summer programs? Thanks!
Is it possible if anybody could give me a peek into their stats and ec’s that they included in their college app that got them into the ivy league. I would appreciate it a ton
