Current Student at Phillips Andover Ask Me Questions!

Even doe that was not my biggest concern ii have to admit i now have the same question?
How is the dating enviroment at andover?
What can you tell me about clusters system? do you like it?
Are you motivated by teachers to work hard…
Sorry for all those questios, and thanks in advance for replying.
ps: Luck to all who are applying.

Please repond :-/

from photos I’ve seen and people I know, it’s really nice there, and dating is good although you just can reinforce how awesome EVERYONE is there, :)

thanks =)!!!

if you still remember, what were your ssat scores?
thanks a ton:)

im also applying for full FA as a junior and if your a well rounded person with good grades and extracurriculars and such you have just a good chance as anyone else. i know and have spoken personally with many people who’ve been to PA and PEA for 4 years straight and thats what they told me. (sorry that sounded like i ws bragging…im not though)

howd you do on the interview and essay? any tips?

@wantmotivation96: The dating environment is probably similar to any high school. People date, and people hook up.
The cluster system basically splits the school into five clusters with dorms in the same area of campus. It doesn’t really affect you on a daily basis. Pretty much the only thing that clusters do together are cluster munches on Wednesday nights.
Finally, yes, I am motivated by my teachers to work hard. Most of the teachers here are very good at what they do and you have to work very hard to get good grades.

Thanks :-)

Hi! I’m [spaceneedlesevie] and i’m new here! So, any current Andover/Exeter students, if you will:

Do you need laptops? My current school requires laptops for incoming 7th and 8th graders (which I am), and I have the MacBook Pro Retina (Sweet computer, BTW). Would that be sufficient or would I have to use a PC? (I’m just not used to using a PC. There’s nothing wrong with them, but it’s just not my preference.) Also, how much software would need to be installed? I’m into filmmaking and I saw Final Cut Pro would be provided. I wondered if they installed it on your computer? Also, will you need to use these in class daily, and are there charging outlets. I was wondering if 15 inches was too big…

Binders: So in my school, we use binders, but I find them kind of a hassle… also, lockers. I was the only person who didn’t use my locker, lol. So are there lockers there? sorry, this may sound stupid.

Dorms: Okay, I’m confused about the dorms. So there’s this confusing thing about the dorms that I read: It says that dorms house anywhere from 8-40 students (!!!) I’m sorry, is that the dorm building or the dorm rooms? How many people are housed in a dorm room?

TV: So, I don’t watch any TV, really, but I read somewhere that Andover has HDTV’s in each dorm room?? I don’t depend on it, obviously, but just curious.

Okay… so I’ve kind of blanked out. I’ll come back with more questions. I WILL!! (mwahahaha)

This information pertains to Andover. I unfortunately do not know much about Exeter.

About the computer: [Phillips Academy -](http://www.andover.edu/Offices_Services/TechnologyOffice/SupportAndServices/Pages/ComputerStandards.aspx)
Macs are completely fine.

Binders are not necessary but very helpful, especially for HIST-100 where you’re given a huge supplement packet. They’re useful for organization, but if you prefer folders or have a different system, by all means use it. Day students are given lockers, but boarding students generally use their rooms.

That’s a dorm building. Dorm rooms house anywhere from one to three people; however, some dorm ‘rooms’ are separated into even smaller rooms - that’s where we get the one-room vs. two-room vs. three-room thing. All singles are one room, but there are one, two, and three room doubles. I’m not so sure about triples, though.

No way. Ever. Each dorm itself has a TV, although I don’t know if each is HD. Ours wasn’t used too often.

hi I know its 2013 now, but I just found this and it would be really helpful if you could answer some of my questions thanks! I’m going into 8th grade and thinking about the ssat. I wasn’t planning on going to boarding school but then I found andover and their great financial aid and thought I might have a chance. I really majorly want to go. I haven’t taken the ssat yet, but I have all A’s I speak german, English (of course), learning frence and Italian. I got into a selective exchange for Italy, I have won a couple writing awards, I was selected to participate in a hurst seminar where we discussed plato and Aristotle. I have done some work for charity and will do a lot more. I am also a pretty good writer, I used to play piano and cello and may take it up again. i do volleyball, lacrosse and i used to do ballet. i am a friendly person, i love to smile and i love nice people, i also like most interviews. that’s all I can think of now. I know its not like some of the students who have done some intense stuff, but do you think i have a chance? also what was your ssat score? and does everyone have to go to an interview or do you have to be selected after they view your application? thankyou so much!!

Lwolf14 hey I’m trying out for Andover as well but for the year above you  I’m not an expert but i think you have a great chance and good luck  also are you American? Cause if you are, I’m trying out from England and I was wondering if you guys think our accents or how we speak are weird :)

Hi,
I am a singaporean who wishes to apply for Exeter/ Andover next year.
May I enquire about how you got accepted into Andover?

 1. SSAT - What did you prepare for SSAT and how long did you spent preparing for the test? Do you have any tips on how to ace the SSAT test?

Interview - What were some of the questions the interviewer asked? I read on this forum that they asked the usual questions, but I heard from one of my friends that they asked weird questions like “apples or oranges”. Can you please enlighten me on some of the questions the interviewer asked, and how you answered them?

Essays - For andover, you have to write a few essays / answer questions. How did you write the essays? Any tips? Does it have to be written in good english, or just to show more of my personality? Is it advisable to include my achievement in some of the question? Any suggestions on how to score well for the essay, other than being truthful?

Thank you for answering all my questions, I hope I am able to join you next year at Exeter / Andover, ( I am applying for grade 11).
