Current Student @ AU... ready to answer Qs

the film program is good as far as i can tell. you do have to double major or minor in something else if you major in film though, it's a requirement in the school of communication. but think about all of the great internships you could get with film in DC, especially if you're interested in any kind of broadcast journalism.

oh yeah i'm a freshman at AU majoring in international studies and spanish.

hope that helped in the least bit!

have u any idea whether facebook is checked by admissions officers

how generous is American to international students,

I would like to apply as a poli sci major... but my stats are not all that great

3.2 unweighted gpa /4.0
SAT: 600 R, 510M, 510W

Do you think I might have a chance to get some sort of financing?

thanks!

if you're going to worry about that then just don't have one.

You don't have the stats for scholarships, unless its a specific international one. Iffy if you can get in- as an international there are different standards.

Hello! I went to American University over the summer as a NSLC student, and I had so, so, so much fun, and the campus was really nice; close enough to the city, yet in a nice forested area, and the size was almost perfect. So I have American University marked down as a safety, but I do a problem:

While at NSLC, the part I hated the most were the dorms. I stayed at Hughes, but I also visited Anderson. I'd probably live at Leonard if I went there, but I have a big problem with non-private bathrooms. By non-private I mean, I can share a bathroom as part of a suite, like 4 - 6 people, but there is no way I can live, day after day, using a floor bathroom. It's both psychological (I got nervous and even mildy OCD-ish when I was using those floor bathrooms) and Physiological (I have a weak immune system and I got a virus there, if you want me to be specific).

Anyway, I know all of this sounds terribly whiny, but I have to ask: While I highly doubt you're allowed to live off-campus as a Freshman, is it a possiblity? Are there any dorms I could get into, maybe with a doctor's note, that have semi-private bathrooms? Are there any dorms that have more than two bathrooms per floor?

Thank you!

i have never heard the facutly do, but they warn you that they can because they do have college email addresses, so they technically can. i think most professors have better things to do with their time than to check ALL of their students profiles. everyone has a facebook though, just dont be stupid about it and put up inappropriate pictures (like many people do).

My interview is this Thursday, do you have any tips for me?

So what is need-based aid like?

Hi, i'm interested in the Journalism program at AU, anyone know someone who's studying journalism there? How do they like it? Also what are my chances of getting in?

Does AU look at your grade 9-11 marks?? Canadian Universities only look at your top 6 grade 12 courses, so i kinda slacked off in those grades because I was under the impression that Universisites in the United States do the same thing. Will my lack of effor early on hurt me?

I have 2 great teacher recommendations, and 2 influential AU alumni letters. I have shows a lot of interest in AU, preview days, interview, etc.

What are my chances of ED? Regular decision?
Asking b.c a friend of mine who went to THIMUN, and was class president and got a 2100 on sats, and involved in school didn't get in, he's very conservative (probably wrote his essay on taking over the world) and said he didn't really show a lot of interest in AU anyways?

i'd say you have excellent chances of getting in...maybe even consider AU a safety...but that's just my opinion, i'm just a student at AU who went through college apps last year. you'll probably get a merit scholarship too with your stats. good luck!

hotpinkprep88, what would u say ur sats were, or what are the lowest sat or act that a person has had at AU? do you think i should attempt to take them again to raise the math?

well, i took the old SAT, but my SAT was low compared to my friends who were in my AP classes...i got 660 on writing, math, and verbal, even thoughni got 1430 on a practice, it just depends. But i was in a VERY competetive highschool...my GPA was 4.67 on a 5.0 scale, i was #54 out of 700 kids in my class. so it just depends on the school and the national ranking, my school was in the top 50 public high schools in the US because of our academics and AP scores. So yeah, AU was a safety for me but i love it, And for all you wondering i got at 15K scholarship(for merit) a year, but no financial aid. feel free to email me at caroline.gilger@american.edu
good luck everyone! i know how stressful this time of year is for seniors!

Yes, it's another one of these "Chances?" questions, but I figured that I might as well try; maybe it will ease my worrying about all these college apps.

My GPA: 3.85 (W) out of 4.0

What are my chances at a regular decision? Also, at any sort of monetary scholarship? I hope to hear your opinions. I really want to go to AU, but I don't think my family can afford it-- but I don't think we qualify for hardly any financial aid either. Yikes.

What is AU's business program like? Have you heard good things about it? Is it difficult to get into?

How is the Criminal justice?

Could i get in AU with a 3.2 gpa if i get good sats and lots of ecs? Age whats the avg gpa for students who get in?
Also, whats the campus like and are the guys any good?

Thanks in advance!

^^

Certainly a possibility, I don't believe AU is really that selective yet. My GPA is an 83 which is around 3.2, however I go to a competitive high school in Canada, where the grading scheme is different from what's in place in U.S. schools and I'm in the top 10% of my class. And I will be applying to AU, it's my dream school, unusual here at CC.
