current student- chances for the business school?

i'll be an upcoming sophomore at maryland and i'll be applying to smith at the end of the fall. i took a workshop my freshman year about admission into the business school and i guess they sort of scared me about how tough they look at each person's resume and grades. i was wondering if you guys could chance me. they say they prefer a GPA above 3.5 but if its below they consider extra curricular. i appreciate the help

Let me know what you find out. I am a parent of a prospective student and the admission possibilities to the Smith School of Business are one of the things that are causing me to have second thoughts. You have a very good record and lots of great accomplishments but as you know they have very few slots available for junior year entry(around 200 I believe). I am thinking of having my son apply elsewhere for exactly this reason.

I imagine you’ve already seen Business Week’s report: [University of Maryland: Undergraduate Profile ? BusinessWeek](<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?) If only 43% of Smith students are admitted as freshmen, the odds of transferring in can’t be all that bad. My DS is a rising senior in Smith so I’d be happy to privately answer any questions you may have.

Well I actually have been enrolled at UMD since my freshman year. I only took summer accounting classes at a community college this summer because i know accounting is a “weed out” class for business majors. plus i wanted to get ahead and finish my 60 credits by the end of fall so that i could apply in the spring 2011 instead of the fall 2011 which will be my junior year. do you think that i would have a better chance of getting admissions in the spring semester as a sophomore than in the fall where the majority of students (rising freshman and juniors) apply at that time?
