Hi, I'm currently a freshman at Colby College and I'm considering applying to UVA as a transfer as an OOS (I won't even bother posting stats because I think it's irrelevant to my current question). Anyhow, how hard do you think it would be for a transfer student to mesh into the social scene? Does the school have any transfer student living areas or anything that you know about? Also, what do you think of the social life in general? Any input would be highly appreciated!

I'm not a current student, but I was friends with plenty of transfer students when I was at UVa. Among my friends who transferred to UVa, they were from Cornell, Michigan, William & Mary, UNC, and NYU. From what I could tell, they were able to enter the UVa social scene pretty easily. My UNC transfer friend Elizabeth even went on to found the Mosaic House behind the International Residential College (IRC).

When you come to UVa, you will go through transfer student orientation, which will introduce you to bunch of other transfer students who are going through the same situation as you. Plus, you'll be able to blend easily with the rest of the student body by simply joining some student organizations.

You can also PM WMRocks, TheSlammer, and FirstYear. They transferred to UVa last year - WMRocks & TheSlammer from W&M, and FirstYear from Tufts.

mmmm, at least we can be friends.

great...thanks so much for the advice! i'm going down to visit this weekend, so we'll see how it goes!

I'm not a transfer student but I know a couple transfer students and it seems that it's not hard to make the social adjustment at UVA. That's good you're visiting, right in time for many students coming back to Charlottesville to resume classes.
