Current student looking to help out potential hounds

bln_1975, There was a kid from here who went down to visit VCU and refused to get out of the car! Just a hunch, but I bet she’ll love UVA. Loyola and W & M are great too so you really can’t go wrong. Good luck with the rest of your visits.

BLN my only concern is that you may be dragging out this process much too long. Schools especially Loyola give priority on things like Housing to the students who send their Deposit checks in first. Procrastination could hurt you. I also recommend that you attend “Acceptance” Days for as many Colleges that you can. Good luck on any College that she chooses. Her IB background will prepare for College academics.

Hi BRavens,

This is an exciting, but stressful time. Yes, I 'd like to conclude as soon as possible, but I would not rush my D. Whenever she is ready to make her decision, I will send out a deposit check immediately.

Right now, she is torn among the three, and she is a perfectionist. As for me, any college that she chooses to attend would be fine with me. Like nysmile said, we “can’t go wrong”!

I thought honors students are given priority on housing and courses. Isn’t it true?

Anyway, we will attend LC’s open house and scholarship dinner on April 12. I think after that she will have a better idea.

Thank you for your info about housing.

I don’t know if honors get Housing priority but most schools group them together in the same living area. I am sure they get some proirity in classes that are set aside as Honors classes. Loyola is pretty good at trying to be sensitive to each students housing choices through the survey at Orientation but they told me that its first come first served in how they pick your room for you.

One bit of advice - check those retention numbers. Sounds like your student is very focused, will achieve wherever. Who does your D want to spend the next four years with? Again, retention numbers, check those.

You may want to go to:Students where you will find a report on Class 2010 experience. Good info that gives a picture of campus life at Loyola. Might want to check out some of the other reports etc. at their institutional research page. Good luck.
