Current Student: Questions before O week? Ask!

club tennis is very difficult to get into, according to my friend that tried out last year a hundred people tried out for 5 spots.

anyone have anymore questions?

How is safety on-campus? Can you like walk to your dorm at like 10pm? When is the best time (when it is not crowded) to go to the Gym and work out? Is it usually for a typical Cornellian to be lazy on fridays and saturdays?

I used to walk back to my dorm at ungodly hours, like 5 AM at times. Safety is almost never a problem. Blue lights are there to call for help if something does happen.

Helen Newman is actually pretty crowded usually, at least for basketball, but I’m not sure about how crowded everything else is.

I feel like Sunday is more of a lazy day. But yes. That’s normal everywhere.

What about the swimming pools? Are they open all year around and are they kept clean?

Pretty sure, but not 100%. Haha, haven’t heard complaints about it at least.

Where can I get some good dim sum? Does cornell do anything special or something during Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year).

Hey! I answered this already!

Yes. They do. But don’t expect much. You will be severely disappointed.

Yeah but i heard those places u gave me wasn’t very good :(. I checked it on yelp.com. They said it sucks and its a bit expensive…

Well… this is Ithaca… everything on yelp in Ithaca is like 4 stars max… ):

Then call me crazy or blind.

Should I bring a fan? Or will there be ACs on west campus?
Also, for big lecture classes, can you bring food and eat it? I mean… at my other school, someone brought fried chicken and ate it during lectures… though it was annoying when he kept licking her fingers off to get that greasy taste out of her fingers…

I believe Becker is the only dorm with AC. But you’ll only need a fan for like the first month at most. You can eat food in class.

What!!! So they built newly constructed west campus dorms (i will be living on Keeton) and they do not have AC!!! thats insane!!

Has Cornell Students ever like slept in the Statler Hotel just for the heck of it and for fun? Statler hotel was very cozy and comfortable to sleep in :).

…To be fair though, you only need AC for like a total of a month probably. :</p>

i dont think they’ll let you stay in the statler for free haha

i still like sleeping in the cold ): …

is there heater in the dorms at least?
Are the rich ppl at cornell nice? Or are they snotty and preppy?

Also, for the dump and run event, what kidn of things do they have and how cheap are they? should i bring cash?

i’m pretty sure theres heat in all the dorms.

dragonneedspank:

heating is good (especially on west)

all the NEW west campus dorms have “AC” in the hallway, suite common areas, and special residential rooms. The gothics have no “AC” And for future reference there is no AC on campus technically, it is all lake water cooling.

rich people are hit or miss. there’s a lot to say on the matter but lets just say people are people regardless of how much money they have.

@ dragonneedspank-
The campus is EXTREMELY safe. There are blue lights all around campus and one can be seen from wherever you’re standing. If you ever feel in danger you can go to a blue light and pick up the phone and ask for an escort to wherever you’re going. Also, CUPD patrols around campus all the time. You can safely walk around campus at ANY time of day.

The gyms are most crowded during dinner time and the evening. It’s less crowded the later you go so around 10PM. If you’re free during class time though you it’s pretty good between 11 and 2PM.

Yeah most people tone it down on the weekends and chill. You’ll wake up a little later then hit the libraries for a few hours then go to dinner and just chill and then go out. Sunday is when people start studying again. But it all depends on your schedule.

You’re not supposed to eat in class but most professors won’t care if you bring something small and personal. For example don’t bring in tacos or a pizza. If you have a candy bar or a Statler salad in a bowl you should be okay.

All dorms have heaters.

Some rich people are snotty and some are not. There are so rich preppy kids and some non-rich preppy kids.

Is there AC in Court Hall?

Also when do people start involving themselves in clubs and extra curric stuff?
