Yes.
Whenever they want, but some start as early as Freshmen Year.

It’s been mentioned that ppl band together with their floor-mates. So what happens to townhouse ppl? Do we just end up as ad little loners off in our own corner?

How are we partnered for Swedish massage? Should I drop it since I don’t know anyone yet as an incoming freshman?

Should I take honors or regular chem? While we’re talking about this: should I take organic chem?

How often do the a cappella groups practice? (lots of details would be appreciated)

Is musical theatre time consuming?

Do most ppl gain weight?

Can I not read Grapes of Wrath? I wish we were the class that got Germs, Guns, and Steel. Anyway, I feel that the reading assignment is pointless and irrelevant to freshman anything, and that if I read it I’m being bullied to go along with Cornell’s administration.

^You can’t possibly be taking organic chem if you haven’t finished regular/honors general chem yet…

I have AP credits for chem already so it’s not like I’m rly missing anything.

Not everyone bands together with their floor mates… I know plenty of people who did not like or hang out with their floor mates.

You can take Org. Chem. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself giving up. AP Chem and Gen Chem though cover similar topics, the depth is not the same.

If you don’t want to read it then don’t read it… simple as that.

Townhouse people will find friends with their suitemates/other townhousers/kids in classes/clubs/frats/sorors

If you plan on being a chemistry-intensive major then you should take honors chem if you have AP credit. Trust me, AP Chem is nothing like Honors Chem II. Then next year you can take orgo

Musical Theatre is time-consuming, yes, especially before shows. Expect at least an hour a day during rehearsal weeks and more if you have a bigger part.

People only gain weight if they don’t watch themselves. Unlimited food during meals/higher intake of junk food/more alcohol consumption/not exercising. As long as you make sure to manage yourself well and look after what you eat and what you do, you should be fine.

The reading project is not really mandatory. It’s meant for bonding. Even if you don’t bond over how great it was, you can bond over how crappy you thought it was and how much of your time it took up. Why wouldn’t you want to read it though? It’s a short classic novel that’s well written. Just suck it up and do it. You will have to read other things mandatory in the future, at least this one will be enjoyable.

Actually, AP chem doesn’t cover the second semester of Honors chem…so you ARE missing something. You should probably do honors if you have AP cred, I think that’s what most people are doing who have a major involving chem or premed (since you have to have a full year of general chem for premed)

i gained about 22 lbs. too many southwest chicken subs. haha
i’m not sure if most others gained weight or not though. i’d say many did

Wow everyone is against the idea of taking orgo freshman year. Maybe I rly shouldn’t take it. But does it help that I took orgo in high school (last yr in fact) and I held my own against MIT’s opencourseware.

@chendrix: I guess the problem I have with reading GOW is that I don’t want to fall under the category of skeptical, terrified freshman whom you can expect to behave and not fight whatever rules are imposed. And I don’t want to look back years later and laugh about how pointless it was and how I could’ve not done it; in fact, if I had known better I wouldn’t have.

^Personally, I wouldn’t worry about that. I think my reason would either be to read it because I wanted to/liked the book, or not read it if it’s boring and I don’t want be bothered with writing an essay during the summer before freshman year.

Yeah, I’m not reading it because
A. it bores me
B. i don’t particularly care about the essay contest
C. i have better, more interesting stuff to read

CC doesn’t count.

The Origin of Species does.

omg this. although i would gain THIS much…jesus how many were you eating XD

if ur going to have nasties…then have a light lunch and din din

^i had a serious addiction to nasties and appel desserts
but i’ve lost like 10 lbs over summer though. hopefully i can change my ways…

Will move in day be total chaos? Is there enough parking for everyone?

Does Clara Dickson have an elevator (bringing fridge)?

Do most parents leave Friday night or do the majority stay the weekend?

Hi, I was just wondering how beneficial it is to have a minifridge in your room.

how difficult would you say CASE exams are compared to AP exams, specifically spanish?

Upstate NY:

My parents and I are probably going to arrive on campus at 10 AM. After I move in/complete my registration, we’re going to go out for lunch. After we have lunch, I’m going to tell them to ■■■■…haha

TIFFANY-
- Yes people bond with their floormates. People in townhouses bond with people in their apartment and the apartments next door and within the complex. You will also have a ton of friends in other dorms who you’ll meet in your OL group, in class, and at parties.

Not sure about swedish massage. But stick with it and make a new friend.

Not sure about chem

They practice a lot. I can’t give you an exact number but its a decent weekly commitment.

A lot of people gain weight but at the same time you do a ton of walking so it balances out. Just keep up a constant gym regiment and you should be fine.

You’ll be fine if you don’t read it. But your excuse for not reading it isn’t very good.

The Orienation leaders and greek movers and shakers do an AMAZING job of getting all your stuff upstairs and into your room super fast.

Not sure about Dickson. But the people mentioned above will be carrying all your stuff so you and your parents won’t really have to carry anything.

I’d say it’s half and half. It all depends where you are coming from.

I think it’s very nice to have a mini fridge. It’s not a necessity but its helpful. You and your roommate can share one.
