Quite a few of the students here came from Jesuit high schools, so I would assume it helps, especially if you rank really highly in your class

How do you find the professors? Are they easily approachable? How about the class sizes (I really love the small classes that I have at my current HS, and would like to have a similar experience in college)?

Any advices for admission? essays,interviews,etc

My professors have been great. They are really willing to help and so knowledgable. The class size really depends on what you're studying. I'm stuck in big intro science classes, but intro bio is huge no matter what school you're at. There are plenty of classes that only have 8 people in them. Next semester I'll have one with 20 people, so there are definitely small classes. Classes also get smaller as you take more advanced courses. I came from a small school too- avg class size was about 17- and I think that it taught me how to communicate with a teacher even in a large class, so I can participate in a class with over 200 people in it. My teachers were my favorite part about my high school, and I would say the same for Georgetown, but there are just too many other things to love about gtown.

No one really knows that the admissions committees are looking for. I'd say just be yourself but make yourself look good at the same time. You never know what might get you in, so don't worry if something about your app isn't stellar.

Do you have any suggestions for those of us who got deferred? Any insights beging a current student an all, maybe from the admission office? I know a lot of us are not ready to give up and we really want to be a part of Georgetown.

I second WaveRider379's question.

I don't really know...write a letter saying you're still interested? Call the admissions office? Admissions is all a crapshoot everywhere, so there are no real strategies in my opinion

If you know any student who was deferred but then accepted, could you ask if they did anything in particular to help their chances during the waiting period?

hey.. i got deferred early. i was just wondering what you might suggest to get my foot in the door. i have a big alum pulling for me down there, used to row crew and sit on a bord down there for 8 years. also donates tons of money. i've heard connections really do take you places at georgetown, b/c they rely so heavily on alum donations. okay well, just wondering if you know what i could do to get into the one and only school i w ant to go to!

-thanks!

Hey all

Please don't ask "what can I do to get in questions"

I really have no idea...this thread is more oriented toward campus life

what is the social scene like (parties)?

There is always something happening during the weekends (except if it's finals time). If you're a freshman, expect to go out partying in large groups, mostly at places like the rooftops until you meet some upperclassmen. Not many people are going to kick you out of parties or anything. All in all, parties are pretty fun (Gtown was actually given an honorable mention on Playboy's list of top party schools).

Wow, I'm really glad to hear that Gtown got an honorable mention--I was concerned that the school may be all work and no play (despite the fact that there were beer cans laying around when we toured the rooftop on my visit). My best friend goes to UAlb (which is out of control bar- and party-wise Monday through Sunday) so I was afraid it might seem like a drag after visiting her. So good! Not that I'm not looking forward to workin' hard or anything :-)

I apologize, I didn't read too closely but I saw something mentioned about public transportation...Are there University affiliated buses that will take you down town? If so, how often do they run? And how late into the night?

Do you know anyone who has transferred between the schools? I'm wondering how difficult it would be to transfer into the College from MSB if I discovered Business wasn't my thing after all (not very likely, but still). Also, are the school flexible enough so that it's easy to take classes in different departments?

There are five GUTS (Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle) buses.

They are: to Rosslyn (metro-accessible), DuPont Circle (also metro-accessible), Law Center (1 mi away from Capitol Hill), Arlington Loop (never been on this one) and Wisconsin Avenue (Safeway, although it can conceivably be taken for other things..)

They run at different times; I can only vouch for Rosslyn having been on it so frequently... the number of runs per hour depends on time of day (5pm would get a lot more exposure than say... 5am in the morning)... but every 20 minutes sounds right (on the weekdays)

M-F, they run until about 11pm in the evenings. Sat, they run on the hour from 11am to 5pm. Sundays.. they don't run; if you need to get to somewhere in DC, your best bet would be a taxi, the regular WMATA buses, or take the Georgetown Metro Connection ($1.00) to Rosslyn and take the Metro from there (Metro being Subway)..

Yea...they have a term for us Georgetowners...we are worka-alcoholics. Work during the week (for most, not all, I personally hate all work) and party on weekends.

I transferred from MSB to the College before I even got here, and it was no problem, so I would say it's really easy from experience.

HoyaSaxa4ever, How did you transfer before you even got to Georgetown? I got into the College and I might want to switch into MSB or SFS, and I wanted to know if I could do this before I got there (and if so, how do I switch?). Thanks for your help!

It's easy to switch between schools, but the earlier you do it the better since different schools have different requirements.

We definitely know how to party. Each different place you go- rooftop, apartment in henle, townhouse, house north of campus- has it's own feel and like someone said, people won't kick you out usually as long as you're chill.

I personally wish that the GUTS buses ran more on the weekends, but people manage. You can walk to the metro stop in Rosslyn or take a cab somewhere else. And usually you don't really need to go anywhere except Georgetown because it has everything you need.

Call admissions...theyll tell you what you need to do

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...FINALS R OVER

GO END OF FINALS

WOOHOOO

Do all applicants receive an interview with alumni? I know of five seniors in my school (900) that applied and only two have us have scheduled interviews. The other three did not know what I was talking about?

I have a few questions if you don't mind....
1) Is alcohol really prevalent? I don't drink, so are there non-drinkers there too? Also, are there non-alcoholic events for people to go to on the weekends?
2) One of my qualms about going to georgetown is the intense workload. What's the workload like as a freshman? Enough to consume my life? Enough to make me go crazy?
3) What are the course requirements for a 1st semester freshman? Do all freshman have similar classes?

Thanks so much!!!
