Current student willing to answer questions!

are there many students there at Creighton from California or the West Coast? Where are you from? What is Omaha like as a city and how often do you go into town to do stuff?

I am not a student but the mother of a sophomore at Creighton. The website has a breakdown of students’ home states from last year-http://admissions.creighton.edu/CUataGlance/WhoChoosesCUWhy/tabid/1922/Default.aspx#2007</a>. My guess is there probably are not a lot of Californian students.

As to your other questions- Omaha is a small city, which makes it more manageable.
Creighton is located in downtown Omaha so there is no need to go into town.

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.

There are more Californians than you might expect at Creighton, or at least I felt that way. I personally know several people from California, and one of my good friends is from San Jose. I am from Minneapolis, which there are quite a few of us Minnesotans. Omaha is a nice city. It’s not extremely large, but I wouldn’t classify it as “small” either. My friends and I generally go downtown mostly during the warm months. When it is warm we tend to go there about every other weekend. The Old Market is really cool. Hope that helps.

I am attending Creighton In the fall and I am from a small city in Southern California. I’ve been to Omaha twice now and its a big change, but I like Omaha a lot better than where I’m use to going back in California. I guess everyone is entitled to pick the things out that they like about different/ new places. I grew up in trashy, ghetto like areas of San Bernardino in California, and I’ve been to nice places elsewhere. Going to Omaha was nice because it was definitely a weather change and nice environment depending where you are in Omaha.(Haven’t experienced winter yet lol) The city feel isn’t like the bigger cities in the U.S. like LA or Chicago, but it has it’s own pleasant feel to it. I hung out in the Millard area of Omaha, since my girlfriend lives in the suburbs and its really nice there as well. I got to see downtown a lot times and it feels really nice. I got to go into the Qwest Center too and that was a unique experience.

Hi pccool52,

I was wondering if you know if the Freshmen Leadership Program is hard to get into? I am very interested in this program and I believe it fits me well. What are the chances that I could get in? Also, if you could provide me with any further information regarding FLP, that would be amazing.

Thanks!

Bluebird, I do not know what percentage of FLP applicants get accepted, but I do know that it is relatively difficult to get into the program. From what I’ve heard the essays are critical for admission. If you talk to your regional admissions representative they can probably give you a better idea of how many applications there are and how many get accepted. All I really know about FLP is that they live on the top floor of Kiewit residence hall and that it is a pretty tight nit community. Creighton’s website should have a lot of info on the program.

Could you talk a bit about the English and math programs at Creighton? Also, how would you say (from what you know) the school compares to CUA?

brewerfan,

From what I’ve heard and seen, the English department is quite good at Creighton. It’s not nationally recognized or anything but I know several people who are English majors and are enjoying their experiences. Honestly, I feel like the math department is a little week if you plan on majoring in mathematics. Not many people take anything higher than Calculus 2. There is not a wide selection of advanced math classes after calc 2. I do not know what you school you are talking about by the acronym CUA. Hope that helps.

Hello, I’m a senior from Omaha and I was wondering what kind of financial aid I would be offered at Creighton. I really liked Creighton but I want to make sure I would be able to affor Creighton plus a Masters degree. My stats are:

ACT: English 35
Math 35
Reading 35
Science 31
Writing 11
Composite: 34

Class Rank: 7/318
W GPA: 4.11
UW GPA: 3.95

I have taken all of the honors classes offered by my school and all but one AP class.

EC’s: President of FBLA, VP of DECA, VP of Science Club. I am a member of a variety of other clubs, but I am not an officer in any of them.

Awards: 1st in state Finance Challenge (senior year), 2nd in state Finance Challenge (Junior Year), 4th in state Economics Challenge (junior year), selected as the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership representative for my school, and some other minor awards.

Other: Held a part-time job for three years.
Started my own computer services business.

Volunteering: I have been volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters for three years now, with a total of about 125 hours. I volunteer for the American Red Cross when possible (75 or so hours) and helped in a Congressman’s campaign for re-election during my sophomore year (75 hours as well).

I was recently admitted to Creighton and with a lower ACT score (30) got $15k a year! I definitely think you will initially get the top academic merit scholarship of $14K and based on your activities the Ignation scholarship (which i think is $1000 or $2000). I’m also interested in business and really involved in BPA and there’s some great scholarships available (I think you have to write 1 essay for each by Feb.) that are $4500 a year. One is for students from certain states and another is for social/ethics leadership. There’s also the top presidential scholarships which you would qualify to apply for w/ your ACT so I don’t think you’ll have to worry too much about fin aid :)

I agree with chicago chick. With those stats, you will likely max the academic scholarship and probably the Ignation Scholarship (based off of extra curriculars). I would highly advise you to apply for the presidential scholarship. For Nebraska residents it is full tuition and for out of state residents it is 3/4 tuition. The presidential scholarship is very difficult to receive; however, your academic stats and extra curriculars are outstanding. I think you have a fair chance of receiving it.

Hi, I’m currently a senior and I just recently submitted my application to Creighton. I was wondering how you get accepted to the honors program- is there a separate application that I was supposed to fill out? Or do they consider you for the honors program after you’ve been accepted regular admission? Thanks

Considering Creighton, wondering pros and cons of their honors program vrs regular track?

.

The difference lies in their core requirements for the most part. Honors kids live together and have early registration, however they all take the same classes so you will not be able to pick from a wide variety of options to fulfil your core requirements
