current students/alumni for exeter

Hey,
I have just been accepted at Exeter as a lower and I am trying to decide very hardly if I should attend Exeter in the fall.
I have a few questions:
1. Is it difficult to adjust to Exeter coming in as a lower?
2. I know there is a grade drop in the first term, but is it possible to receive a mix of As and Bs rather than Bs and Cs after you have adjusted?
3. Is it possible to have a social life there?
4. At my old school, my sport was cheerleading, but at Exeter they do not have that. Would it be possible to train over the summer in a sport such as crew or squash and make the spring team (not V, just JV)?
5. What is the best moment you have had there?
6. What do the girls wear there?
7. Is it possible to join a good amount of clubs, volunteer, play a sport in spring, and try to maintain a good GPA?
Any other insights, thoughts, or experiences are greatly appreciated!
thank you!

please guys!

Exeter’s sports are very competitive so making varsity with only ~1 of experience is very tuogh

^^ depends on the sport. For example women’s water polo, if you are athletic and can swim you will make the squad. Diving? For sure. Lacrosse, or field hockey–not very likely. Rowing? Get some erg times-- if they are outstanding, you will be in the hunt.

poetry - CONGRATULATIONS

1) the average GPA is around a B, if that helps you consider what kind of grades to expect. The college counseling site on the Exeter webpage lists the exact grade distributions.

2) YES on sports! JV teams are accessible, there are many large teams, and as a lower you may be able to take fall novice crew, and row JV or varsity in the spring.

3) Time management is important in juggling athletics and coursework, but clubs and activities are important too, and are a lot easier with free Saturdays.

Girls wear jeans most of the time, with shorts/cute dresses/skirts when it is warm. Bring a warm waterproof coat (North Face or similar), and waterproof warm boots (LL Bean duck boots or similar), gloves, scarf and a hat.

Unfortunately the e-guide is not accurate, and all the “dress slacks, skirts and dresses” I sent my daughter with got sent back, and she bought a couple of pairs of new jeans.

At the Experience Exeter Day panel Dean Ron Kim said that the grades clustered at a 9 which is a B+ but with a bias toward a 8 (B).

thank you guys so much! I wish I was able to go to Experience Exeter last week!

Congrats!

current students created this website to showcase students “who keep it classy and stylish while still abiding by the dress code” It might help with figuring out what to wear.:stuck_out_tongue:
But at the end of the day, it’s really whatever you feel comfortable wearing that matters!
