I'll be registering for classes on Friday for my first semester and I was wondering if current students could recommend classes that they wish they had taken as a freshmen because the class itself is really interesting or the professor is really really good.

Also, just note that I'll be a biological sciences major and I'm really not interested in taking any literature courses that go beyond the general requirements. :)

Philosophy courses are really interesting, and Pitt is top 5 in the world for undergrad philosophy. I’d recommend anything but Ethics. It’s a good class, but a little too abstract/obscure and displaced from reality, so I feel like most students are put off from philosophy from the course. And that’s a shame.

I’d imagine Intro Logic would be pretty interesting.

painholic- early registration is only available on the afternoon of Honors Day sessions to Honors students who paid their enrollment fee by a certain cutoff date. I checked to see if my daughter could register later this month (she is Honors and did pay the enrollment fee); however, they stated that it is only available during Honors Day and that you have to register for this offer by the date they provided. The deadline for registration for the current session was April 2.

@pandem: what about Foundation Sculpture? I tood a ceramics class in high school and I really liked it so I thought it would be cool to do that in college.

Sorry, I didn’t see your post until just now. I haven’t taken sculpture, but I know a few people who have (mostly non-art majors), and they all liked it.

How much time is it outside of class? I don’t want to be overwhemled for the first semester. How many credits did you take for your first semester?

@pandem: Be careful about the philosophy GenEd! most 1000-level courses in the philosophy department will not fulfill the GenEd section. Intro to Logic does NOT count as a philosophy course either. Best way to check about course fulfillments is to go through [Course Descriptions | University of Pittsburgh](http://www.courses.as.pitt.edu)
