Would you guys recommend using Facebook, roommate finding website, or just letting random selection do it's thing.

My d used the Penn State Class of 2012 Facebook page. She met her future roommate in April and they talked until they met in person at orientation. She thinks that’s the best option. She also says you can do random and then meet the person through Facebook, but you don’t know who your roommate is until July (she thinks) so that leaves you less time to get to know each other.

I found my roommate on Room surf. I’d definitely give the website a try, because it allows you to get a background on the person before considering them as a roommate. My now-future roommate messaged back and forth on Facebook before deciding to room together, but I found her on Room surf!

I tried room surf…honestly, look at facebook, chat with them, make a decision and just go with it…your freshman year is your freshman year. You’ll meet someone who you know you’ll want to room with after you get here. I thought I had a good roommate picked out and that wasn’t the case…you just dont know from the internet if you’ll be compatible or not. I wouldn’t pick random, but i’d just find someone who you wouldnt mind dealing with for a semester and go from there. Sometimes it works out great, sometimes it doesnt.
