is there accesible transportation to nyc or boston for williams students such as a bus or train system close by and is it affordable?

For some recent discussion about this, see this CC thread:

thanks. what about new york?

NYC is basically the same story as Boston. Realistically, you need to either have a car or catch a ride with someone who does. For scheduled school breaks, it should not be difficult to find a ride to either Boston or NYC.

Williamstown is really not significantly served by public transportation. The Amtrak station with one train per day to Boston is down in Pittsfield, which is half an hour away by car.

Scheduled school breaks have a bus to and from NYC for $25.00 door to door.

I imagine same set up to Boston.

DS used the bus last time. Was very happy with the arrangement. This, of course, does not speak to spur-of-the-moment trips and visits.

There is a bus from Williamstown to Pittsfield. S used it to visit relatives in Pittsfield, so conceivably, one could get from school to NYC or Boston on one's own steam.

There are also flights from the Albany airport and a shuttle service to the airport. Obviously, not the spur-of-the-moment type transportation, but doable.

Regular daily bus service provided by Peter Pan Bus Line to NYC and Boston and lots of other places in the northeast. Check their website and then call to get further info since much of the service to and from Williamsburg does not show up on the site for some odd reason. But it exists. The Williamstown Inn is the pickup and drop off point.

Peter Pan:

Twice a day to NYC. 4 hours 50 minutes. $82 round trip.

Once a day to Boston. 6 hours 35 minutes. $90 round trip.

Don't know where you're getting your information from, but I've seen roundtrip tickets to NYC for $58.

Peter Pan's website.
