Current students of Business Information Management.

So I am planning to transfer from cc to uci with this major. I like it because its a mix of computer science and business in a way.

My question is that is it bad that the 2 are combined? When i look for a job would I be looked down upon because I wouldn't have thorough knowledge in either. Or would it actually work in my favor?

What are the jobs in this major like. It sounds very interesting but I want it to have fruitful outcome.
What kind of jobs of students in this major have gotten...is it a bright field to go into?

Hi
I’m going to be a 3rd Year Business Information Management (BIM) major. This is a reasonable thing to see as a BIM major since there is not a ton of focus in one area of study. As a BIM major you take around 7-8 computer science courses which builds a solid foundation for computer science. On top of that you take numerous business classes which gives you a wide scope of all parts of a business (accounting, finance, information system, marketing).
However when you are looking for a job, employers do not base their decision solely on a persons major as you might know. Having a major could help you prepare for what you want to do a career but it is all the extracurriculars that you actively participate in and what you actually do in college that will make a difference to employers.

For example, even though I’m a BIM major I really wanted to go into a career with accounting and information systems. So I applied for an accounting minor to take more advanced accounting classes and on top of that I came out to the numerous account firm events so I could network with the professionals at those firms and get my name out there. Of course by getting my name known to the companies that I want to work for it will enormously help me when I try to get a job at those firms.

Don’t let your major hold you back from participating in activities that will help you professionally, instead use it as a stepping stone.
