Now that the first semester is over, perhaps some current Tulane Freshmen could list their courses and give a brief description of the course and the workload involved. Thanks.

I’m an Engineering Major, idk what your major is, but I’ll list it out:

Calculus I – Had a really good professor, took a college Calculus course in HS (credit didn’t transfer). It was pretty easy. I didn’t study much except a little for the final, and what we required to do for the graded homework (somewhat time consuming). Pretty easy A, but you have to watch which professor you’re with when it comes to the math department.

General Chemistry I – Professor wasn’t well liked by the class, I really didn’t care one way or another, thought he was “ok-average”. I’d taken AP Chem in High School (easy 5), but had to work for my A in there. Studied a good bit for the tests, but got a pretty high grade on each (class average on the tests were usually in the 50s-low 60s). General Chemistry Lab was a joke really, pretty easy.

General Physics I – Professor was well liked, but gave confusing lectures. Tests weren’t bad if you did the suggested problems (very time consuming). Studied ages for the Final, thought it was impossible, but still ended up with a high grade in the course. Labs were difficult, confusing, and challenging. The department however uses a weird curving method for the labs where most people end up doing alright.

Edited to add: “Mastering Physics” homework assignments were very time-consuming and a pain.

TIDE145 – We didn’t do anything. Seriously. Professor is a cool guy though. Take it if you’re a science major and like “Dilbert”. Most of us just drew in our notebooks during class.

Fickle, what is your major? You said engineering. What type of engineering major are you?

Chemical Engineering
