i am changing my schedule around and am wondering if 10 min. is enough walking time between the j.m. patterson building to the armory?

Ha i got a similar question mine is from MATH to TYDINGS [ 10 minutes ] … looking at the map i thnk i can do it

It’s plenty of time.

is 10 minutes enough time to walk from ARM to JMP? i am having a similar situation

EDIT: WOW never mind, i just realized the first post asked the SAME question, my bad.

http://www.admissions.umd.edu/admissions/pdf/OUA_Campus_Map.pdf

You can find JM patterson (gray, in the engineering/chemsistry cluster) as well as the Armory (red, at the edge of the mall closest to the frats) labeled on the map.

Interestingly enough, if you put “College Park” into google maps and zoom into the campus, you can right click on the map and do “directions from here” and right click on another area and do “directions to here.” Since JM Patterson is a little before the intersection of Stadium and Regents, and Armory is near main administration (You can just type “main administration” into the “to” field), you can run walking directions this way.

Now, it says “6 minutes.” The route it picked is fairly direct. So, at first glance plenty of time. But factor in that it may take a minute to get out of the building, and a 1 minute to find your room and seat in the next class, well, you better hope one prof doesn’t end a few minutes late or the next doesn’t start class a minute or two early. Also Regents drive during peak class time is just JAMMED with people. I mean, I’d say it’s doable but not to the extent that I’d say there’s “plenty of time.” You’ll have to haul ass a bit.

My suggestions is get a bike. It’s very useful for a campus the size of MD. Great for trips down to CVS when you’re out for class or the night buses aren’t running yet, great for getting from point to another just in general. You can find cheap-o bikes at Walmart/Target or used, under $100. You don’t need anything fancy, just something with wheels.

A better map to check out would be [The University of Maryland](http://www.map.umd.edu) It’s a pedestrian map made by one of the Gemstone groups one year.

And JMP to the armory is cutting it a bit close. If you’re on a bike, you might be able to make it but it won’t be fun. I definitely recommend a bike for that, because although it SEEMS close on the maps, it takes a lot longer to walk there than you’d think! If possible, leave the class before hand a few minutes early (or get there a few minutes late if the prof to the class in the armory is always late or something).

^Yeah, I almost recommended that, but it appears to no longer be functioning (but maybe it’s an issue with my browser/settings, rather than the program).

JMP to Armory takes 5 minutes tops. I had to walk it 3 days a week freshman year (after a 2 hour 8am nonetheless). You just learn to walk faster at UMD. It’s why we’re all so fit :). I remember when I was an OA, we always had to stop and wait for our freshmen because our idea of “normal” walking speed is faster than people new to campus.

The only buildings which you MIGHT have an issue getting to in 10 minutes are ERC, SPH, PAC, SQH, and VMH, maybe LEF if you’re coming from the science wing. Anywhere else in between is a piece of cake. My girlfriend was able to make it from Chemistry to Susquehanna in 10-11 minutes last year, and that’s uphill lol.

^Lol I must just walk slow then.

It was annoying as heck last semester to walk between some of my classes, and SQH was one of them, but there were some that were a ***** to get to not on your list there. Like what was one of my classes…I think Glen Martin to the history building. Ugh, that killed me. Walking or on a bike, just had to rush so much. No fun! I mean, sometimes you want to ask teachers a question after or before class, ya know?? Cutting it close is annoying.

But I mean, yeah, if you’re like, super short and super lazy, might be harder for you to get somewhere then some tall power-walker.

But eh, getting a bike is just a good idea no matter what.

Oh, and just for reference, SQH to JMZ (on the top of the mall), takes about 5 minutes too.

^Haha that was another one of my killers.

I think my schedule for one day was Glen Martin to history, history to jmz (a relief), jmz to SQH, and then BACK To jmz…

I was about ready to die at the end of that day from all the speed walking. I think I eventually dropped my SQH class…mostly because it sucked and it wasn’t worth it haha.
