yea, there should be. It would be late in the year probably

yes there is a spring admit orientation. in the info packet you received, the booklet said that december 4-5 is the main orientation for spring admits. if you can't go in december, they'll let you go in january. the january 3 orientation is meant more for transfers, and you will most likely be moving into your dorms the day after (january 4th), so come prepared.
you do have to reserve a spot for orientation, and the website is www.usc.edu/orientation. they make you pay for the orientation right away using credit card, and it isn't cheap.it's 80 dollars per person for the december orientation, and 60 dollars a person for the january orientation.
spring admits can't start reserving for their orientation though until september 1, 2006, so hang tight.

So does anybody know when EVERYTHING's going to show up on oasis (tuition plus whatever else insurance, health fees, etc) because my parents keep on asking me... XP

umm everything has shown p on mine... Everything should be on yours...

Mine is missing two credits -- a NM scholarship that won't be posted until after the last day to add/drop classes in September so is listed as a provisional credit now & the $400 housing deposit that they're still working on processing (mine & thousands of others). All the rest of the stuff on Oasis looks correct to us.
Also planning to charge the USC Spirit Card on-line, which will be another thing added to Oasis.

I was under the impression that the $400 housing deposit would NOT be posted on OASIS, and that the money would be returned at the end of the year as long as there weren't damages to the room etc.

Im pretty sure thats what the housing contract said.

That isn't the impresssion I got from the Housing Office when I spoke with them; they said they're still in the process of posting all the many housing deposits they received for fall housing. As long as they didn't LOSE the money & it's going to be credited to the correct account, I have no problem with however they choose to handle this. Don't want the $400 to go into a black hole!
In any case, I don't think USC has any problems getting money from anyone who has damaged their housing--they can do many things to make students (& families) lives unhappy if needed until payment has been received.
Will give the Housing Office a bit longer to finish posting deposits & if it doesn't show on Oasis, may give them another phone call.

The housing deposit is indeed billed via OASIS. The $400 is then credited back to you at the end of the lease and will appear on billing statement as a -$400 charge.

That explains why I had -$400 after last semester ended.

would u recommend bringing a printer? or is it really easy just to go to the library and print stuff? (i'm living in North so Leavey is close by)

is there any current student here who could answer a tech question about laptops and TVs?
if so, could you please pm me... thanks.

Bring a printer if you have an extra one... sometimes if you finish a paper at 3am in your room its nice to be able to just print and go to sleep...

Bring a printer.

We will probably just buy a printer in LA for our son rather than bringing it up from HI (unless there's a deal we can't turn down before we leave). I think it's a handy thing to have a printer in your room--perhaps you & your roommate could share one? Seems like having a nearby printer is very handy, especially since most kids have had one in their homes most of their lives.

Hmm does everybody else have tuition and grants on their oasis? becuz i don't.. and somebody said we should..

it's convienient to go to the computer labs and print...except it gets expensive real fast. 10 cents per page black/white and I think a dollar/page for color(selected labs only). So it can be economical to get your own printer.

however, the printers in the lab are laser printers, including the color laser printers, so the printouts will look much better (unless you have your own expensive laser printer). Text is a lot sharper and colors are crisper. And you never have to worry about fussing around with printer cartridges.

as for tuition, mine has been posted but it comes from a different pot than the merit scholarships for me so I dunno about that.

It might depend on when you registered as to when your tuition will be posted. Regarding merit awards, 2 of the 3 my son was awarded were posted & one has been provisionally credited (will be final once the drop/add period passes in September). Call the folks at the Cashier's Office if you have Qs--there's a toll-free number if you're outside CA.
You can also call the department that's awarding your money (if you know, such as Financial Aid, your individual School or Dept, etc.)
I guess it might be worthwhile having a color laser printout of something that might look MUCH better, but knowing how close son cuts deadlines, not sure he'll have the time or interest in bothering with using this personal printer & getting selected docs via the color laser. Might matter more if your major is advertising, art, or film, etc., not sure it matters as much in engineering, math or science.

the printers don't get really crowded, but it's useful to know that during heavy usage toward the end of the semester (when everyone is printing) you might have to wait in line to get your printout. Not too bad a wait, but dashing in to print 15 minutes before it's due is risky.

There was only one class really where I felt I wasted money on printouts, it was an engineering class which required us to hand in paper copies of hundreds upon hundreds of lines of useless technical code & stuff. It was things better handed in online

some professors do accept stuff online - extremely common in engineering, becoming more common in most other departments. Some professors love online turn in because they can use automated tools to detect cheating and plagarism

does anyone know how much room there is above the closets in birnkrant (in a double)? is it possible to stick in some kind of extra shelving unit? also, does anyone know if it is possible to find measurements of those rooms beyond just the square footing?

Are there any recommendations as to which printer gets the job well done and is economical?
