<p>Current UChicago students: What's your favorite food in UChicago?</p>
<p>Just satisfying my gastronomic curiosity.</p>
<p>I don’t attend uchicago but im a prospective student for the class of 2016. Anyways, I currently live in SoCal but I was born in Chicago and my family grew up there so we know all of the good restaurants.</p>
<p>Portillos has amazing hot dogs and Italian beef
Gino’s east and luminatis are hands down the 2 best deep dish pizzerias I’ve ever been to.
If you attend uchicago and are willing to travel off campus, you will never have a shortage of good food!!</p>
<p>I currently live in Chicago and plan on applying as well, and I can attest for the food in and around the great Chicago area. Portillo’s has great burgers and dogs, there’s tons of great deep dish and flat pizza restaurants, and multiple deli’s. </p>
<p>Also, the culture clash with food in Chicago is great. If you’re looking for genuine mexican food, you’ll find it. If you’re looking for genuine chinese food, you’ll find it as well.</p>
<p>I don’t go to UChicago, but I have a sibling there that I have visited numerous times. I believe you are asking about the food served in the dining halls on campus? The food is actually pretty good. Large variety of foods, and they like to change up the menu every now and then (with some standard offerings that are served year round). But like with any college dining hall, you will eventually get sick of the food (or so I’ve heard).</p>
<p>Off campus, you’ve got chinatown which has some fantastic foods. My favorites: tea at Saint’s Alp teahouse, Lao Hunan, Lao Sze chuan (forgive me if i misspelled those). Theres also deep dish pizza which is amazing (gino’s east/giordanos), and if you want to try something new, theres a place pretty far north called Urban vegan-- vegan thai food which tastes 100000x better than it sounds.</p>
<p>these are the foods ive tried in only a few visits… I’m sure you will discover many more good eats as a student</p>
<p>How are the meal plans at UChicago? I’ve heard that they are expensive, that may just be a rumor though</p>
