Current freshman here. This may be surprising, but…

GPA: 3.1-3.2 UW
Rank: Top 30-40%
SAT: 2290
RD, got in off waitlist, class of 2016

not surprising at all, i heard rumors vandy was very score-sensitive, and your stats just confirm that.

That is very encouraging for us too with 3.5 and 2380. Thank you for lifting our hopes.

haha yeah, im in a similar boat (3.5 after this current quarter and a 1540/1600 on the SAT’s), so its nice to hear some people got in with a lower-than-average gpa and an above average score

I am a current Vandy freshman. Here are my stats.

Unweighted GPA: 4.0 on a 4.0 unweighted scale
Weighted GPA: 4.5ish on a 5.0 weighted scale
Rank: Unranked (but estimated top 5%)
SAT: 2360
Applied and accepted RD, class of 2016.

I am a current Vandy freshman.

Unweighted GPA: 3.4 of 4.0
Weighted GPA: 3.82 of 5.0
ACT: 33 (34 superscored)
Applied RD, waitlisted, then accepted off waitlist 1st day waitlist was open.

If you want to get into Vandy but have a relatively low GPA, lukecg is completely right in that Vandy is one of the few top schools that place major emphasis on test scores. In my case and in many others, strong test scores can make up for a poor GPA. that doesn’t mean that you can be a C student and get into Vandy if you have a 2400, but if you are an A/B student, and have at least a 3.3 UW, strong SAT/ACT scores could significantly boost your chances.

Vanderbilt posts all this data.

@senior223 what would you consider to be a strong enough ACT? I have a 3.7 UW with mainly APs and a 32…im retaking it in December and praying for a 33-34. I want to apply ED so badly but I can’t because of money. Vandy is my absolute dream school. do you think i have a shot with a 33-34?

I’m in the Blair School of Music, so it works a little differently (i.e. your audition factors in, so they’re a little more lax about academics) but in case anyone’s curious:

GPA: 3.7 ish
Rank: Top 12%
SAT: 2010
ACT: 28
RD, accepted

GPA: 4.0
Rank: 1/300
ACT: 34
SAT: 2350
RD, accepted, Chancellor’s Scholar

Freshman here

GPA: 3.6 ish
Rank: Top 10% ish
SAT: 2360 superscored
ACT: 35

Accepted RD for A&S

I agree with other people; Vandy is very score sensitive.

Transfer Student:
GPA from Transfer School: 3.7
ACT: 21 <- yes thats right.
Its all up to what you write in the paper.
