Current weather in houston:

Yeah, it's gorgeous out.

jenskate1,

Just do not thell them how last week was;).

yes Jenskate and don't tell them temperatures in March, April, May, June, July, Aug, Sept, October.

Seriously folks, we have great weather from Nov to end of March.

Houston's weather is crazy. In the summer it's incredibly hot and humid- I've been to the desert in the summer and it is much cooler. In the winter, it gets slightly cold in the morning from time to time (around 40) and if the sun is shining it shoots back up into the high 70's. I can go to school in pants and a coat and leave school wishing I was wearing shorts. Most Christmas mornings I remember going outside barefoot and in shorts (but a few times, I probably shouldn't have). Most people here don't like the weather (Houston lacks seasons- I don't even think the leaves ever changed this year), but as Rice students, you probably won't see the worst of it.

Jenskate, as a Long Islander, I love Rice and everything about it, but it just really bugs me a lot when I have to justify to others why I would go to a school in Texas with all the "rednecks" of Texas. I know this is a complete fallacy but it is just really weird that ppl are so ignorant when it comes to Rice. I was even looking at US News rankings since 1991 and to my knowledge, Rice has never been out of the top 20 and I cannot say the same for Wash U and Emory, which seem to be more popular for some reason. I think that Houston is a much better college city than the middle of no where in St. Louis.

I totally agree with everything that you just said, Dog87.

nspeds - Thursday of last week was lovely as well, i think.

jenskate: Yes, there were moments of loveliness.

The area around Rice is excellent as it near the most expensive, and one of the most expensive areas in Houston.

Do people seriously think that about Texas? That's ridiculous. Houston is the third largest city in the US- Houston's by no means backwater.

You should hear what foreigners think of Texas.

Geoge Bush doesn't help the image of texas no offense.

Living in texas Ive been asked if i ride horses to school. Up in dfw today its nearing 80. And I'm loving it! I really do not want to leave this state! Put me up in the north and ill come running home as fast as i can, or ill freeze all winter ... something about texans and snow doesnt seem to work.
Oh rice, be nice to me the second time around.

I'm from dfw! :) what area are you from?

Rednecks are a very small minority here; you'll hardly ever find one - maybe out in the boonies somewhere.

Wait, tomboy - people in dallas don't ride horses to school?

lol, j/k

try explaining it to a girl up in troy, ny. she just didnt get that i didnt wear spurs and chaps around all the time! You know 'ole Silver really just doesnt like to wait around at school all day, or i would ride him to school, since no one here has cars ya know. So i just have to walk. oh yeah, and school ends before it gets dark too - we have no electricy in texas. Apperantly Maxwell's laws apply everywhere but texas. I see it now, a sign on the border, Warning: maxwell's laws cease to apply here.
LOL
ahh, texan sterotypes. gotta love 'em.

oh - Im from Dallas.

Matlock is defending me after the recent draw I had at the Corale; it spooked Felicity, my horse.

The fact that I am from Sugar Land, TX, only intensifies the stereotypes I hear upon revealing such information.

Hmm- who's biased and uninformed, Texans, or people who actually think that sort of thing about Texas?

or people who think people think that about Texas?

people actually think that way about Texas....

I know, I was just screwing with your minds. Go herd some cattle if I really upset you.
