Currently a Junior with a 3.98 weighted GPA

Hi, I am currently a junior and I am wondering what are the chances of me getting into UC San Diego,UC Davis, Santa Barbra or Irvine for majoring in Computer Engineering/Science. I took the SAT and I got a 1300. I passed my Ap World History exam with a 3 last year. This year I am currently in AP BIO, AP Chinese and Us History honors. I have such a low GPA because I got a C for the semester for AP bio but A’s for everything else. I afraid that colleges will straight up deny me because of the low GPA and the C in AP bio. I don’t quite understand how the GPA system works. Do i have 1 more semester to boost myself and will my GPA rise for my overall GPA? Thanks

Is your weighted GPA, your UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

UC’s only consider a-g courses in 10-11th grade and will give you extra honors points (8 semesters worth) for UC approved Honors, AP, IB or DE courses taken during this time. This is your capped weighted UC GPA which is used by all the UC’s. UCB and UCLA also use the fully weighted uncapped UC GPA (unlimited honors points).

If you are CA resident, you can look up which classes at your HS will give you the extra honors points in the GPA calculation.

UC a-g course requirements: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/requirements/a-g-requirements/

Since you plan to purse an Engineering major, the UC’s recommend SAT subject tests. You should take Math 2 and a science SAT subject test (Chem/Physics or Bio).

Yes, you have 1 more semester to boost your GPA.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:

UCB: 12%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 39%
UCSB: 49%
UCD: 52%
UCI: 57%
UCSC: 83%
UCR: 90%
UCM: 92%

Alright thank you so much for your response. I truly appreciate it. At the current rate, I have a 3.93 UC GPA. It is still pending whether that will rise because I’m currently on my second semester of junior year. I plan to take Economic honors and English honors for my honor classes next year. I’m not sure if those score will take into affect because I would have to turn in everything in December of 2017. I’m not sure if it will boost my GPA boost. Its just AP bio bugs me. If I do bad in AP Bio and pass the AP exam will the colleges take that into consideration showing that my AP Bio class is hard? Thanks

Senior grades are not considered in the UC GPA calculation but it will count towards HS course rigor. Senior grades are used to maintain your provisional admission: 3.0 Weighted GPA and no D’s or F’s Senior year. UC applications are due Nov 30th and I would not wait until the last minute to submit.

AP scores can be self-reported but they are not used for admission purposes only for college credit.

Oh alright thank you so so much for your help I have a slight relief that it can boost this grading period. I was just a little paranoid but you cleared things up for me.

Make sure you have at least 1-2 safety schools on your list. UCR/San Diego State/Cal Poly Pomona/CSU Long Beach would be good options.

Alright gotcha thanks so much once again
