you can add princeton, williams, yale, and swarthmore, to the distribution requirement list, although you're right, the requirements are different at each school.

williams - three divisions that require three courses each: language and the arts, social studies, and science/mathematics. plus, you have to fulfill a "peoples and cultures" requirement, a "quantitative/formal reasoning" requirement, and a writing requirement.

swarthmore - like williams, swat has three areas that each require at least three courses: humanities, natural science and engineering, and social sciences. there is also a writing requirement.

yale: their system is a little more complicated, but basically, each year you must have a certain number of courses completely in one of the four groups:
group I - languages and literature
group II - humanities/arts/music type things
group III - the social sciences
group IV - math and science

princeton: has quite a few areas that require coursework. you are required to take one freshman writing seminar, and fulfill a foreign language requirement (i think all the above school require a language competency thing too). then, you need one course in the following areas: epistemology and cognition, ethical thought and moral values, historical analysis, and quantitative analysis. you need to complete two courses in literature and arts, science and tech, and social analysis.

and in terms of schools with core curriculums, uchicago has a very well known core.

hope that helps.
