Curse word in essay?

A quote said by someone that has been instrumental in shaping my life has the word "ass" in it. If this quote were to be part of my opening sentence, would this reflect negatively on me? It's actually a funny quote, so it's not filled with angst or animosity.

Could you give us the sentence to help us better determine? And I think it should be perfectly ok at most schools. I’m not sure how really religious schools would feel about it, but it seems to me as if you’ll be using it lightly if it’s a funny quote, so I’d go ahead and put it in.

Well, it certainly would be eye opening…

I’d feel weird about writing the quote on here, as it is a way for people from my school to recognize me.

Really, though, it’s a quote that I’ve never heard of anything similar in my life. I am applying to a few religiously affiliated schools (Villanova, Fordham, Boston College), so do you feel this will impact me negatively?

Fordham, BC, and Villanova I think would all be fine with it, I’m talking about super-crazy religious schools like Campbell. And I’m really intrigued about the quote, lol could you pm it to me?

I’m sure it’s perfectly fine as long as the entire quote isn’t inappropriate.

I have a feeling most of the people who will be reading your essay use the word “ass” on a pretty regular basis. Assuming you’re not using it to describe a sex act I think you’re good.

honorstudent- Hmm, I’ll think about it!

But yeah, it is not a vulgar quote and “ass” isn’t used to describe a sex act or any other act that would seem what I consider to be “juvenile” or anything.

“Ass” should be fine, as long as you are not referencing felching or something similar.

College is a place for adults. You might not realize it, but 18 and 19 year olds are young adults. A single swear word, especially in the context of a quote, will not get you sent to time out.
