4xprep- we decided not to apply (variety of reasons), but my son has 3 or 4 friends that are going to apply. None are stand out athletes (although all play sports and will likely be JV players) and I think they all feel good about it. I do know that Cushing is trying to be more "balanced" in terms of arts and athletics and from what our placement counselor said, she feels they are doing a good job.
It was one of the schools where everyone seemed to know everyone else, which I think is a good thing (I know some kids don't want that though).

keyly, he may have been invited but i'm pretty sure he was at unh for track.

i think there is actually a lot of opportunity for football pgs if your goal is to get recruited at an ivy league or d3 level. you are right about the club teams; a lot of the time (such as for lacrosse pgs) a pg year is just an extra summer. obviously there are good individual athletes in ne in sports like football, but it is generally considered a fairly weak region. i'm sure you're right about soccer. the football thing isn't really specific to ne btw; it's really pretty much the entire east coast minus western pa.

you can get in, but they will tell you that you didnt qualify for financial aid

My D will graduate this spring of 08. I have to state for the record that Cushing is a great school. My D picked Cushing instead of better known boarding schools for a variety of reasons including most importantly the supportive nature of the school. The teachers have been superb and she has had a wonderful experience. She transferred from a private school in RI as a sophomore and has had 3 great years. As evidence of her success she was accepted EDI at Vanderbilt and will be in the class of 2012. She is NOT an athlete. Her buddies are all going to top colleges. I highly recommend Cushing.
