Custodial parent may deny FAFSA/CSS, Non Custodial Parent pops into the scenario

So…let me get this straight. You are going to leave your grandma and mom (neither work) penniless so you can come here for college at great expense…for BOTH undergrad and grad school?

@thumper1, @austinmshauri, they themselves are willing to fund me, once I convince them of my choice of major and career interests. They’d rather consider it as an investment on me, the human resource. They wouldn’t want to sit around with just 16k for their entire life, rather take the risk and invest it to grow it exponentially. They also won’t be penniless. Grandma has a modest amount of monthly income as long as she’s alive. Mom is going back to work within couple of years. Also, we are in process to get back what mom was robbed of by NCP, which would be around $500,000 in cash and another $1.5 million in assets, but that would take 6-7 years as judicial process is very slow in India.

I’m afraid the discussion is shifting from the topic of the thread (answered now), and all of a sudden a moderator would pop in and close my thread.

Then…you can get your dad to complete the non-custodial parent forms. If you are in this process…he is able to be contacted.

But your bigger problem…your mom needs to be willing to complete the financial aid application forms. Period.

Oh…and like we all said in some earlier thread…you will absolutely be selected for verification with an income of $0. The schools will justifiably want to know how you are paying your bills day to day. So…have documentation ready to send…because it’s highly likely you will be asked for it.

@thumper1, just had email conversation with NCP. Didn’t end well. He has bluntly declined to support / help me in anything.

Yes, I have 2 major problems - getting CP on board and arranging the documentation. Other than 3 years of non-filers statement and supporting letters of explanation of survival, I wonder what else they’ll ask for?

@GuessME5

They are going to wonder who is paying your bills.

@thumper1, if that’s all they’re going to wonder, then I can explain it / or get it explained in a written letter. Thank you! I’m relieved now.

Two things:

There are several ways to your chosen career, not only the one you want.
Once you attend college, you might change your mind. Go for an affordable education since you can’t count on your parents’ financial support.

Talk to your dad, beg your mom if you have to. Who knows, he might be sick.
Don’t end up regretting not talking to him when you had a chance.

@GuessME5

The colleges will tell you exactly what they want if you are verified.

I’m taking my best guess…but it could be off.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

You would be correct.
