Nice to know scores of 235 and 227 make it in any state, not just our Southern state.

In recent years, a score of 223 or higher has made it in any state…I’m pretty sure.

Are you guys sure that these scores are for the class of 2012 and not 2011? What I have found says that the cutoffs will be released in September of this year.

The current cut off scores are for the class of 2011

I am a newbie ,would like to know how and what basis the finalists are selected and benefits of being a commended or selected?

Finalists are selected by reviewing SAT scores, GPA transcripts, essays, and school recs.

In reality, as long as the above are OK, a NMSF makes it to finalist. Only those who have some poor grades, a “too low” SAT (anything above a 2000 is ok), a discipline problem at school, or don’t do the paperwork/essay don’t make it.

As for Commended and such…it really doesn’t do much for the student. A few students are given the Corporate special NMF scholarships if their parents work for those corporations (and the companies do the special award).

my child got 224 and we are in California, any chance she will be semifinalist for the class of 2012

^That score should make semi-finalist for sure. I don’t think CA’s cut-off is above 220

224 is high enough to make NMSF in ALL STATES.

The highest a cutoff has ever been is 223.

I don’t think Calif has ever been above a 220 anyway.

congrats!

Thankyou mom2collegekids

I was told that notifications begin in early September. Has anyone actually received their notification of semi-finalist status yet? Anyone specifically from Florida?
