We’re tightening up our list - and were looking more in depth at Ohio Northern, and noticed the “hearing” at the end of the sophomore year. Is it a cut program? (are they actively seeking to shrink the size of the class after sophomore year) or is it just a juried program where they are making certain the students are on track - and presumably would only be cut if they truly aren’t ready to move on.

Does anyone know? I looked through other posts on ONU and couldn’t find anything addressing the hearing.

My daughter is a senior MT at ONU. They do not have a cut program. As far as I know, all MT schools have juries at the end of each semester. You are graded on your end of semester jury hearing which is seen by the voice faculty at the school. Let me know if you have any other questions. Be happy to help the best I can!

This doesn’t have anything to do with cut program, but since your D is a senior at ONU, I was wondering if you could help me with a probably really stupid question. I see the school is methodist based - what DOES that mean? I also note that students with other backgrounds are accepted, but how much does religion, or the methodist religion, play into the daily life of a student? I am always quite confused by schools that note they are affiliated with a specific religion and typically steer clear if it is not what I am affiliated with.

I believe she had to take one religious history class in her four years there. That was about it. I think you can seek out the religious aspect if you so choose, but I would not say that religion played a large part in her day to day curriculum.

Raam1012 - Here in Ohio many (maybe most) of the private universities were founded & initially funded by religious denominations. But at this point most of them have only minimal religious requirements - typically one class as part of the general education requirements like gpmom said. There are some schools that require more than that, for example I know of one school that requires all students to take a specific religion-oriented minor. But I don’t think that school or any others with those sort of requirements offer any MT programs. I suggest checking the general education and graduation requirements on the school’s web site and you will get a good feel for what that school requires.

Would love to hear from any parents of students attending Ohio Northern!! D has been accepted and we are not as familiar with this school as some of the others on our list. We really enjoyed the audition process and speaking with the team while at Unifieds. Thanks!

My daughter is a freshman at ONU and loving it. Let me know if you have any questions

rcpurple - would LOVE to ask you questions! Did your D have a lot of dance training prior to college and is she being challenged in dance? Has your D adjusted to living in such a small town? Was that much of a factor in her decision making process? As far as talent - where does she feel she fits in the program? Is she impressed with the upperclassmen? I ask because what’s most important to my D is that she is challenged. She wants to get to college and find that everyone is SO SO SO talented - that she has much to learn to catch up.

What does your D like most - what doesn’t she like?
